Sometimes in the unscripted moments of a campaign, when the handlers are away, a candidate shows his true nature. Earlier this month, Andres Oppenheimer of The Miami Herald asked John Kerry what he thought of something called the Varela Project. Kerry said it was "counterproductive." It's necessary to try other approaches, he added.
The Varela Project happens to be one of the most inspiring democracy movements in the world today. It is being led by a Cuban dissident named Oswaldo Payá, who has spent his life trying to topple Castro's regime.

Since Willie, the Rats have No Shame anyway.
"Kerry said it was "counterproductive." It's necessary to try other approaches, he added."
Isn't this what Kerry says about everything? And then he never comes up with another approach.
The guy has a terminal case of "analysis paralysis." He is so tied up in analysis that he can never make a decision. That is why there is no legislation with his name on it.
Kerry was only too happy to consign the lives and property of Nicaraguans to Soviet stooge Danny Ortega. Typical elitist snob know-it-all.
Imagine if in the 1980's Ronald Reagan had called Andrei Sakharov or Natan Sharansky or Lech Walesa or Vaclav Havel "counterproductive" because, after all, what they did spawned crackdowns, too
I am surprised the NY Times even is reporting this...
"The guy has a terminal case of "analysis paralysis." He is so tied up in analysis that he can never make a decision."
You've just made THE case as to why it would be so dangerous to have anyone like sKerry in the Whitehouse. Leaders lead. Others are either paralysed by the pressure to make decisions or they just flow with the winds of the day, making sure they don't hurt anyone's feelings.
Ho, Mao, Castro, Ortega. Has Kerry ever found a communist thug he didn't like?
His "other approach" is to do what the French want him to do. It's hard to have a vision of the future when your heads buried in Jacque Chirac's butt.
That's an image I am now trying to get out of my mind.
It also conjures up an old adage: "The difference between a Brown-Noser and a $h!thead is just a matter of depth perception".
"Isn't this what Kerry says about everything? And then he never comes up with another approach."
Like Clinton, Kerry is afraid. To take a stand or take decisive action is to risk failure, or worse, being seen as wrong. Better to just duck the issue and let the Cubans rot.

After all, the efforts of the United Nations for the past 40 years have been making great progress for civil rights, freedom, and democracy in Cuba.
Thanks.
Effin Kerry lacks the moral imagination to comprehend the truth in Jefferson's 'Tree of Liberty' comment.
He has no heart for the patriot's blood, nor any balls for the tyrant's blood.
It's hard to believe that he's above 30% in the polls.
Kerry is writing a new book with the title "The Power of Negative Thinking."
Dr. No?
A powerful editorial, except for the kudos to Carter at the end. This must stick in the NYT's craw, and just about when I was going to give up on them entirely.
Kerry certainly reveals his pathetic, aristocratic, commie self here, doesn't he. Let the truth out. Let America really know who is running for her highest office.
