Edwards Says Bush to Blame for Iraq Aftermath (Edwards A.K.A WonderWoman is acting stupid again!)

HOUSTON (Reuters) - U.S. Senator and possible Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards (news - web sites) blasted the Bush administration on Friday for the chaotic aftermath of the Iraq (news - web sites) war and said President Bush (news - web sites), not his underlings, is to blame.

"If you look at what's happening, there's a lot of discussion and debate around the country about Don Rumsfeld and whether the secretary of defense should be fired and whether he should resign," Edwards said in a fiery speech to the Texas Democratic Party annual convention.

"Let me say this very simply -- the person who is responsible is the commander in chief," he said to loud applause from the enthusiastic crowd in Bush's home state.

"Where I come from, we say a fish stinks from the head down," said Edwards, who is from North Carolina.

Edwards is considered one of the top candidates to be Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites)'s running mate in the November election. He praised Kerry profusely and urged the delegates to work hard for his election.

At one point, his speech was interrupted by chants of "V.P., V.P." which brought a smile to his face, but no comment.

Prominent Texas trial lawyer John O'Quinn, wearing a necktie that looked like a U.S. flag, spoke after Edwards and criticized Republicans for questioning the patriotism of Democrats.

He ripped off his tie, held it up and said: "They can put that idea where the sun don't shine."

But he is photogenic, after all NO ONE in the democratic parties power structure knows any thing about foreign policy.

As evidenced by the 26 idiot bureaucrats who want to return to the totally failed and discredited policies of pre 9/11. I mean how stupid does it get?

It will make for an amusing debate with Cheney.

If he meant that Republicans should put the flag where the sun never shines, he should be removed from office, flogged, tarred and feathered, and ridden out of town on a rail. I'll lead!

Hmmm. Does Edwards' shooting his mouth off at this time tell us anything about Kerry's impending pick? That's the Veep's job in an election, denegrading the current president.

the chaotic aftermath of the Iraq war

Edwards may have a point. The aftermath of every other war in history has always been peaceful an idyllic.....(is the '/sarcasm' thing really necessary?)

I'm feeling better about November a lot if Edwards is the pick. I still remember his performance on MTP and he will do no better in a debate with Cheney.

If the Breck Boy had a less Breck-ish face, we wouldn't even be hearing about him.

Gee, the courting of McCain is now as dead as as Kerry's delivery of a speech...I was thinking they might romance Hagel..

Gephardt got spanked in the primaries. He counln't even get the union vote. Gephardt is the unions greatest supporter and has been for years. They still wouldn't vote for him.

Edward's rant only shows what little history this man has learned - what would he have done in Iraq to quell the terrorist's determination to stop democracy from gaining a foothold in the Mid-East? Did he or does he have a plan? John Edwards ain't much of a man if all he can do is parrot the party line; as a trial lawyer, he should know this kind of rhetoric doesn't hold water.

Lordy! What a pair – a questionable Viet Nam hero and a trial lawyer! By the way can anyone tell me how it is that Johnfonda Kerry served a scant 4 months in the service and his “training” is never mentioned. Where and when did he receive his training?

"It will make for an amusing debate with Cheney"

Probably the best of all of the debates! Mr Cheney will have him for lunch.

"he should be removed from office"

John O'Quinn is not a politician, he's a trial lawyer in Houston who made billions off of famous cases and gives millions to the Democrats. I can see why he and John Kerry are a*****e friends.

To say that the Muslim religion is "fastest growing" is puire BS. It is not.

Further, since the beheadings I have "had it" with Muslims. I am in my own private Jihad now, and it means if there is a Mulsim I avoid him, if I see a head scarf I fart on the way past, and if there is a Muslim running the shop or pumping the gas I do not buy there.

I want Muslims and their stinking religious faith out of my country, ASAP

I heard a few weeks ago that a potential problem with Gephardt is that he served in the MO Guard during Vietnam, and if it Bush is being trashed for serving in the Guard, why would he pick a VP that did as well? The only upside to picking Gephardt is that he is as boring and maybe less charming then Kerry.

All great points. I liked Rush's point yesterday that if the Dems are trying to find a Veep with foreign policy experience, charisma, voter appeal, etc., that it proves they have no faith in Kerry as President, let alone a candidate.
