Medved says that (a) our presednt immigration policy is a failure, (b) it is a fantasy to believe that all present illegals can be rounded up and deported, (c) it is unrealistic to believe we can keep illegals out of the country and (d) the only workable solution is some sort of work permit program to register present illegals and get them out of the underground economy.
Exactly.
I do think we can keep most of new illegals out, but saying we can just ship away all the ones we have is gounded in fantasy.
I would add the following three items to that list: (e) any illegal immigrant who is arrested for a crime must be improsoned for a period of not less than five years for violating this nation's immigration laws (regardless of whether he committed the original crime that prompted his arrest); (f) no illegal immigrant can file suit in a U.S. court as a plaintiff; and (g) any illegal immigrant involved in a civil lawsuit as a defendant will automatically have a default judgement rendered against him, and will forfeit any and all assets to the plaintiff in the case.
Cut off ALL taxpayer funded services to illegal aliens while at the same time severely crack down on American companies who hire illegal aliens. With no jobs available to them, and with no free government handouts, illegal aliens will begin to deport themselves.
