The Ronald Reagan commemorative postage stamp is planned to be released on/about February 6, 2005. I have a suggestion, but I don't know how or to whom to make the suggestion. I am guessing that our intelligent and creative FReepers would know how to find the right people to make this happen.
I would like to have the Ronald Reagan stamp's denomination set at 40 cents and not some lower value, to honor his position as our 40th President. The remaining stamp's cost above whatever the going postal rate at the time would be donated to Alzheimer's disease research.
This would help two ways. The stamp would have longevity as a letter stamp even as the postage rates go from the current $.37 each on up to $.40 over a period of time, and Alzheimer's research would get a healthy boost of donations. Even selling a mere 15 million books of stamps would generate $9 Million for Alzheimer's research at the current stamp rate.
Can any of you FReepers help me out here? Thanks.
would you please ping your list, jms?
I can offer my support. Contact the Postmaster General. I think this is a lovely idea.
ping
could you ping your list, Victoria?
BTW, I am not a dad!
Do you know what person this is? I am guessing the PG doesn't have an e-mail address ;)
POSTMASTER GENERAL/CEO JOHN E. POTTER. Try using WWW.usps.com. Should be able to find something there.
(I have some friends who work at the post office, and I think they still are worried that Reagan is going to privatize the post office. He he.)
Please ping your lists.
LOL!
I just sent a note to the USPS via e-mail at their site. Thanks for the suggestion! If you want to help also, here is the link:

Postmaster General is the person to contact.
Great idea, good luck.
Did you go to a Post Office and ASK the Manager there? Someone there MIGHT have an idea of whom to contact (My Post Office is pretty good.)

I am not 100% positive but I think this would require authorization from Congress, that is why I suggested Chairman Istook.
...but I guess those addresses get to the same place! More references: http://pe.usps.gov/text/dmm/G043.htm#Rdn30260
