As a ferry commuter, I'd like to echo the opinions of several posters here. I am against searching for pocket knives and nail clippers, but have no problem searching suspicious vehicles or drivers. Huge trucks, moving vans, busses....vehicles of every size and shape are on these ferries. It would be a piece of cake for someone to fill a truck full of explosives and take out a couple of thousand people in one shot. I fear the "slippery slope" analogy too, but I value my life and those of my fellow ferry riders a bit more.
