Russian Muslim Leader Suggests Punishing Terrorists’ Families

Deputy leader of the Central Muslim spiritual directorate of Russia, Muhammadghali Khuzin, has suggested introducing punishment for the relatives of terrorists, Interfax news agency reported Wednesday.

“Each terrorist who goes to kill people, must know that his immediate family will pay for his deeds, too,” he was quoted by the agency as saying.

Khuzin said that if terrorists “do not care a straw for the lives of other people”, they must know that people close to them will become social outcasts. “We sometimes face the situation when a mother who reared five robbers and murderers receives privileges and grants as a mother of five children.”

He was quoted by the agency as saying that the relatives of terrorist and of people connected with terrorism must be deprived by law of all kinds of rights and privileges within the frameworks of social, pension and other monetary benefits.

Khuzin also greeted the idea to ban the ideology of Wahhabism proposed earlier by Deputy Prosecutor General Vladimir Kolesnikov.

“Wahhabism must be forbidden in Russia, and wahhabites and their accomplices must be called to strict account,” Khuzin was quoted by the agency as saying.

Wahhabism is a Muslim puritan movement. The members reject all acts implying polytheism, including the veneration of saints, and advocate a return to the original teachings of Islam as found in the Qu’ran and the Hadith. They supported the establishment of a Muslim state based on Islamic canon law.

Adopted by the ruling Saudi family in 1744, the movement controlled all of Nejd by the end of the 18th century. It was assured of dominance on the Arabian Peninsula with the creation of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1932, and in the 20th century-supported by Saudi wealth — it engaged in widespread missionary work throughout the Islamic world.

I'd like to hear some of this kind of talk coming from Islamic religious leaders in the U.S.

"Bueller? Bueller?..."

The reason we don't hear this here is because we have been blessed (so far) to not have the kind of daily in-and-out terrorism they have there. We're separated from the Mid-East by distance, and the population of Muslims is still small (fewer potential recruits). Start seeing the kind of mess that happens daily in Russia or Israel and you can bet you'll all sorts of public outcries.

I've said the same thing for years. Considering that saddam was paying families of the dirtball homicide bombers in Israel, I think using the opposing strategy, and when they know this will happen before they decide to kill others, they may think not. Who knows unless it is tried.

Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire when water isn't effective.....

Let me tell you something. I have learned Russian (conversationally, not fluently) in part because I see Russia becoming what the US was. As we become more and more tightly a police state, expatriating is not out of the question for me. They have a 13% flat personal income tax, they created a Second Amendment in 1996 (Yeltsin insisted on it), and they have a common-sense approach to terrorism like this fellow advocates.

I'd like to hear some of this coming from ANY leaders in the U.S.

We have to fight these lunatics at their own level. We can't fight then with our hands tied behind our backs.

You have to employ tactics which will succeed. We shouldn't compromise our core values, but whne dealing with the kind of vicious, organized insane lunatics these Islamofascists represent, we will have to suspend some of our finer western sensibilities.

People who are willing to die themselves in order to kill innocent civlians MUST be hit where they are vulnerable. And the ONLY place they are vulnerable - possibly - is with their family. In the kind of tribal society which produces these misfits, tribe and family come before anything except their crackpot religious beliefs. And that is where we should strike them.

An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. A head for a head.
