When my father was in the Navy during WW2 he always refered to the Marines as (I'm not sure of the spelling): "Gyreens".
I have no idea whether that was complimentary or not but I suspect it was not. Probably just the normal competition between services WW2-style. I haven't heard the term used in decades but it might still be lurking out there somewhere.

Ever notice how POORLY some of these people take to a good ribbing?
What's the matter folks? Have the liberals brainwashed all of you into the "politically correct" thought patterns?
Nothing can be a joke anymore? Gee - what a rotten and SAD life you must have.

I don't know why, but where I'm from, I don't know anyone who has joined the army. I have plenty of friends in teh Marine corps and I knew a few guys in college who were Army ROTC - now they're rangers.
My buddy's brother is in the army - as an apache helicopter pilot.

Funny picture, but this not the time for inter-service nitpicking. You've got FReepers sniping at fellow FReepers and causing dissent amoung OUR American HEROES because of a different uniform.
The families of those KIA would not appreciate this kinda talk - cool it.

Hey you dufus!! I just now put on my glasses and
they are BOTH MARINES! Just look at the cover (head gear) worn by the guy on the right. It is NOT Army, new or old. It is either Marine or a Navy Corpsman!
You started all this crap over an erroneously identified photo!

The 'US Army soldier' in that photo is a US Navy Corpsman.
They can slouch all they like.

They're both wearing Marine Corps uniforms.

I do have a problem with the PFC on the left.
He is not wearing a single ribbon [he should at the very least have a ND ribbon[?]. And he is not wearing any shooting medals...neither rifle or Pistol. Even if he were a boot [quite possible] he would still have a shooting medal [rifle].
Of the two...the Marine on the left is unsatisfactory.

With all the talk about the Marines (always capitalize that word) being part of the Navy, don't forget that the Coast Guard is part to the Navy also in time of war.
As for inter-service humor - here is one I like in part because it is not insulting to anyone: Remember it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.
The Air Force are French Poodles. The poodle looks pretty, sometimes seems a bit pampered, is expensive to maintain, and always travels first class. But don't ever forget that the poodle was bred as a hunting dog and in a fight it's still dangerous.
The Navy are Golden Retrievers, good natured and great around the house. Kids love'em. Sometimes their hair is a bit long. They point out and fetch the food for the folks back home. They go wandering off for long periods of time, and they love water.
The Army are St. Bernards: Big and heavy and sometimes seem a bit clumsy. Takes a lot to feed them. But St. Bernards are also very powerful and have lots of stamina and you want them around for the long haul.
Marines come in two breeds, Rottweilers and Dobermans (big and mean and skinny and mean). They're aggressive on the attack and tenacious on defense. They've got really short hair and they always go for the throat. They can find their own food if they need to. Some people don't want them around because they are afraid of them, but you NEVER want them on the OTHER side in a fight.

Also, what's the problem with his dress belt buckle?

Plus the Marine on the right has his ear plugs with him.
That one on the left is on point. Uniform pressed and starched, boots shining. Mind you he does have his cover off center but he is relaxing and apparently looking at something. Between the two, he is just as squared away.
