BAGHDAD _ Residents of Fallujah say foreign insurgents have banned drinking and music, imposed their own courts to enforce strict Islamic law and killed more than a dozen people suspected of collaborating with U.S. forces.

U.S. military officials, who turned the city over to an Iraqi-led "Fallujah Brigade" last month, say they have only anecdotal information about conditions in the city but remain concerned about the influence of fighters loyal to terror chief Abu Musab Zarqawi.

So why did Bush withdraw a few weeks ago, not letting our troops clean these thugs out? Am I missing something?

Nope. Very discouraging. I'm also worried the general elections might yield results that will be similar to sharia law.

Since the Shi'a out number the Sunni by a factor of 2 (Shi'a 60%-65%, Sunni 32%-37%) I do not think the Sunni's are going to impose their minority view on the rest of Iraq.

I do believe after a while the Sunni's will tire of sharia law.

Algerian method: Provide a supposed "safe haven" where you rarely go, then let the bandits collect in one place for later disposal.

We need to clean up this town before the handover. Re-election be damned. We knock their ducks in the dirt and wreck their hideouts. Boost American poll numbers and leave the town stunned and ready for Iraqi control.

George W. Bush, Knock down this town!

I'm betting their clocks will soon be sparkling clean. Let 'em get set up and feeling safe. Kimmitt is no fool and he just called Falloujha "unfinished business" a day or so ago.

said Fallujah resident Saad Najam Abdullah, who visits Baghdad to drink alcohol without fear of being arrested.

At least not until his name was published for the world to see that he drinks alcohol... now when he returns to Falluja, what will happen to him?? Thanks "reporter."

Our major Operations in Fallujah should have never ended. I don't like comparing this war to Vietnam but the way we handled Fallujah was exactly what a lot of us feared. Almost everyone knew it was a mistake to pull out from day one and now it's been proven to be just that. If we had continued our attack the major combat would have been over a long time ago and you wouldn't hear every liberal in the media bringing up that failure every chance they get.

I also think it's obvious that Fallujah is where most of the attacks are being planned through out Iraq, so if we had taken the city everyone would probably be a lot better off now. But I doubt we or the Iraqis are going to do anything about it, not before the election anyway. The way the Fallujah operations and the Sadre situation were handled made me lose a lot of confidence in the way things are being ran over there. We should have used massive force in the first month and crushed the resistance. We would be in just as good favor with the Iraqis and the World community as we are now, if not better. I don't see how anyone can think that not taking complete control of Fallujah and allowing Al-Sadre to live free in Najaf has made anything or anyone better off.

Now we just see constant attacks that kill Americans and Iraqi civilians that are being planned freely in Fallujah. We aren't doing enough. We are doing what we are capable of doing and I believe it's largely political and ignorant.

Nah,
Fallujah is getting what it wants: government by {insergents/ rebels/ terrorists /take your pick}

Fallujahians are more likely to embrace the truth of how evil these thugs are this way that by the muzzle of an M16.

When we walked into Iraq, we avoided fullujah. We have let the Baathist and Shiites set up fortresses there. We need to run a convoy through there and as soon as there is is a problem, have A-10's and C-130 gunships knock out everyone who appears to have a weapon.

As soon as the jokers run into a mosque, bomb it and give no apologies.

Tell them they can not hide, we will not stop until the peaceful Iraqis can enjoy their future.

I do believe after a while the Sunni's will tire of sharia law.

Well, by most news leaving Iran, the Persians have tired of sharia. Unfortunately, the thugs are in power and there is no hint of a change.

Europe tired of Naziism and Facism, Eastern Europe tired of Communism. Persia is tiring of Sharia. Unfortunately, as history has demonstrated, nothing will change until external forces are added to the mix.

We're merely letting the Jihadis win their hearts and minds for us. They'll be much more appreciative of Americans the next time the Marines roll into town.
