"I think she is down on women who have the choice and make the wrong one thereby neglecting their families through pursuing their own selfish, unnecessary career goals."

Bingo!

I don't know about Dr. Laura, but if I lived a little closer I'd be your little girl's adopted grandma. I have a grandson in Colorado. He used to live with me. I miss him terribly. I love having kids around and my grandma and great-grandma were the most influential people in my early life. I guess that's why it makes me sad to see children who don't have that. God bless you and your little girl.

That is so sweet. It also gives me encouragement because we have given up alot to help with our grandchild. He is one confident and well-rounded stinker!

And to debunk the theory that kids need pre-school to become smart, my children did not go to pre-school and they were all at the top of their class, two in the National Honor Society.

My mom worked until my older sibling was 8 years old. When I was born, she stayed home until I was 14 and my younger sibling was 11 (after my dad died).

There are WORLDS of difference in the value system, lifestyle, priorities and work ethic of my older sibling versus me and my younger sib.

I think a part of this is the fact that the younger two of us were Gen-Reagan'ers (Reagan as President in our formative years), but I have to believe that A HUGE part of it is that my mom stayed home with us as tots and didn't with her.

I absolutely agree. Children who are raised by their parents, at least in my experience, are articulate, interact well with adults, as well as other children, and in many cases, are better adjusted than than their day care raised couterparts. I'm not saying that's true in all cases. Some stay at home parents are just lazy bums and are more useless at home than away, but generally speaking, there is no one better equipped to raise a child than parents who love them and want to assure that they have the best available to them and who recognize that THEY are the best providers/teachers/nurturers for their own children.

Good post. It's important not to generalize, there are always exceptions.

And my sympathies go out to those who truly cannot stay home with their children. To them I say, faith in G-d and prayer will take your precious little children farther in life than you can ever imagine.

When I was growing up only the "dummies" went to kindergarten.

Total, utter, one hundred percent crap. This is nothing more than a lie you tell yourself so you can sleep at night.

You spend more on day care than you do on taxes.

Citing the exceptions to a rule does not invalidate the rule. You're just being disingenuous.

Yep, or when you're in the nursing home. All of your old coworkers always come and visit.

Why do you feel the need to mock and ridicule someone for having a large family?

I got my Real Estate license 4 years ago when my two youngest children were in high school. Made $67k last year, probably $80K this year. No college degree, work for my self, having so much fun, and my kids love it, they encouraged me to get my license. This is in Oregon where the average price of a home is about $140K.

I have five children. What do mean? Sorry if you were offended, but it is apparent he wasn't!

That is the battle with my family. I am a stay at home mom with 2 and one due Halloween. My sister is taking over the family business and has a nanny and her kids are in preschool. They are all over me about the need to put my son in preschool this fall or next to socialize him. The funny thing is that whenever we get together (they live in PA) my 2 1/2 year old is not the aggressive one. He is sweet and energetic but not mean. My 10 month old is on the way to being like his brother. The major complaint from the family is that my son doesn't talk well yet, blah, blah, blah. I used to teach preschool (in a daycare) and taught kindergarten and jr high math. They don't believe that I may know what I am doing. It is maddening.

Sorry, "What do you mean?" is what i intended to type.

You must be thin-skinned, have a lot of children, and/or be a Mormon...

I am the product of a large family, myself, and my folks did as he stated... what they could to get by. As a career enlisted man, my dad worked three jobs sometimes, to give us kids a few extras.

He sacrificed, just as our poster is doing... to make his family stronger. I'll bet he's (BSunday) doing a pretty good job of that! I'll bet his kids against most others coming down the pike, and I have never seen them, or heard of/from them!
