Very likely his name is either Indian or Pakistani, probably the former. His name does not really sound Iranian at all - 90% of Iranian names end in 'i', occasionally in 'an'. Armenian ones end in 'ian'.
My experience with the Indians that I come in contact with is that they are almost all virulently anti-Bush. I couldn't figure it out for a while, but then found out that most of them are also virulently anti-Israel.
