I was unaware that Mr. Johnson was a reformed lib...interesting.... Very much so. At one time he was the editor of the New Statesman which is a (and was) a socialist rag of the reddest hue. It's interesting that two of the best writers of their generations ( Horowitz is the other)should have made the trip all the way across the political spectrum.

Paul Johnson is a great writer of serious history.
His masterful work, "A History of the American People" (1000pgs), puts him in a class with de Tocqueville (IMHO).
