I don't think you are generalizing. From my family experience, most "mental health professionals" seem to have problems.
In fact, I just mentioned that fact to a young lady at church a couple weeks ago; she was filling out a college application and wanted to major in psychology or some such.

To be honest, her place is in the ass-end of my fine borough, so I don't think that it's anywhere approximating the distance from there to Watertown. In fact, it's out of the way for me. AND I LIVE IN BROOKLYN, FOR GOODNESS SAKE!
But I do enjoy dropping by and hanging around with her and my brother's hipster/boho friends from time to time.
In truth, I've only been upstate a handful of times in my life. Aside from going there a few times when I was a kid, e.g. a hideous bus tour to Cooperstown-it's a long story, believe me-visiting my older sister, when she was a camp counselor ages ago, and a few sporadic visits in-between, I don't have that much experience with NY State, North of The Bronx.
My mother once worked as a CO at a men's correctional facility beyond Albany, but other than that, we stick pretty much to the City and its outlying suburbs.
