Seven aircraft carrier strike groups? OK now you have my attention. Though, If you follow the link to the Operation Summer Pulse web site, there is not indication these seven Carriers are going to mass off the coast of China like the story suggest, but will be in various areas of operation including the Gulf of Guinea
I think this is good ole gun-boat diplomacy Texas style.
If I miss ya you have a safe trip home...........I'm working tomorrow and should be back to poohville Saturday AM.
Give me a shout and I'll buy you and the family dinner if I'm back in the Panhandle by then !
Stay safe !
You are damn right he would.
Ya gotta love this President. Rather than let China sanguinely blather on with very incendiary rhetoric about invading Taiwan, Bush says, "Oh yeah? We heard that, and we just wanted to let you know what you'll face, if you ever think about DOING it. Happy 4th of July."
Well safe to say something is gong on, might be just what DOD says a planned exercise, but I kinda doubt it.
I hope so......but I think a dispersal is more important now than running around pigeon chested with a big stick. As Jeff points out our big sticks are on boomers and in silos. We don't "need" to do such and the timing based on manpower, money and materials available just doesn't fit.
Just my personal opinion. We know a spain style political based terror attack "will" be attempted so such an option to put to sea is possible. As one stated above it takes time to do such and I suppose they figure the time is now .
Again just my thoughts on the situation......Stay safe !
I'm seeing dots connected and it says North Korea has a very short window to make the right decision.
Oh yeah? Why don't you try dealing with 1 trident sub to start with
No way, the last thing Bush wants right before an election is getting into a war with N.K. This is either a reaction to something, what? Or a planned exercise, (yea right) just like DoD says.
Even the North Korean whackjob president for life might decide to retire tor Monaco and work on his golf game.

We probably have more, but don't forget, USAF, Marine and Army aviators are there too.
Msgt, USAF, retired.
Otherwise, under the FRP, six CSGs may well arrive to join in the battle.
This is a message to the military and political leadership of not only the PRC, but to the DPRK.
In the case of either country, this is an all but insurmountable obstacle to their regional goals.
If they try and launch an attack after fully mobilizing, those six carriers will either already be there, or be a few days out. That scenario is all but suicidal.
If they try and launch a surprise attack with no prior mobilization, they'll be lurching unprepared into well laid defenses, and have a mere month to attain victory before the hammer falls.
If they attack after a partial mobilization, such as 'a large scale training exercise', then their chances would be somewhat better in outrunning the carrier full court press, but in this case the defenders (and us) would still be watching them like hawks. The carriers might not be ready for the fight, but everyone else would be.
In short, this is gunboat diplomacy at it finest. It forces our enemies to look at numbers that push victory out of reach. Neither side has the conventional power to defeat or even resist six carrier groups.
Deterrence through strength.
roger that one...you don't move assets like this just to make a show...the Chinese know what we have- this is for someone else...I would be curious to know if the 4/7 CAV is still at Garry Owen, Korea or if they've repositioned south and east of the rock drops...would like to know where our AWAC's are...
bump
About damned time. China has been riding on its economic importance and its supposed influence over North Korea, which it actually has too little of. They are no fonder of a nuclear nut next door than we were of Cuba way back when.
A single carrier strike group, especially accompanied by an Aegis, is a truly awesome projection of power. Not many nations can muster that together. Seven in the same region, I think that makes a definite point. Hope they send each group, one at a time, down the straits. Yes, I know China is working on building a genuine deep-water navy, but I'll be dead before they can build something seriously competitive with ours, stripped down as ours is.
Awesome it is, cheap it ain't, 'bout time we got our moneys' worth. By the way, assuming this actually happens, who in this administration had the cojones to put this on the table. We need more of it. My handle is for real, I tend bar part time, In 30 years of doing it, I have learned, try to be polite, but there are a lot of them out there will mistake kindness for weakness, then you really do have a problem.
Possible out might be get Taiwan to call it "autonomous rule" rather than immediately jumping to independence. Same effect, Mainland saves face, (very important over there), and everybody pretends the problem is solved, at least until we have had chance to deal with a few real problems, such as a North Korean fruitcake who apparantly already has the physical capability of hitting anything west of the Rockies with a nuke.
We may have had a tip on a possible NK months ago, hence the repositioning, or we may have planned to do an ultimatum in July, hence the repositioning.
Just looking at the map here. You know, if we go a bit further North we wouldn't have 7 csgs in China. They would be in North Korea.
Interesting..
