The truth of the matter is that 85 or 90% of the Africans ever brought to the new world as slaves were brought to the carribbean where they were worked to death on sugar canes and then replaced after four or five years. That was a deliberate policy, which was viewed as cheaper than allowing slaves to have children.
Only in the United States did slaves live well enough to reproduce themselves and become self sustaining.
