"I oppose abortion, personally. I don't like abortion. I believe life does begin at conception...

"I can't take my Catholic belief, my article of faith, and legislate it on a Protestant or a Jew or an atheist," he continued. "We have separation of church and state in the United States of America."

Kerry wants to be president so badly that he'll forsake his religous views before he'll forsake support from the abortion enthusiasts. He's just pretenting to be religous because he knows there's not enough atheists voters to get elected.

John, a hint: If this is really your belief, it can be supported by DNA testing, which has nothing to do with the church.

..."Kerry told the paper: "I oppose abortion, personally. I don't like abortion. I believe life does begin at conception."

Kerry 150 years ago: "I personally oppose hanging your slave from a tree, but I won't stand in the way of someone doing with their property what they will. I believe slaves are human beings."

Then why doesn't he vote AGAINST abortion?

It's just another fli-flop by this CINO. Nothing new here, folks. Just speaking apeasement to the conservative crowd in Iowa.

"I can't take my Catholic belief, my article of faith, and legislate it on a Protestant or a Jew or an atheist," he continued. "We have separation of church and state in the United States of America."

Catholic ethical teaching on surgical abortion is not an "article of faith. " Kerry doesn't understand Catholicism. That the killing of an unborn child is a murder, unlawful and immoral, is not a revealed theological mystery.

The part of Catholic teaching which binds Kerry as a Catholic is that having or assisting an abortion is a mortal sin barring one from Holy Communion. Before 1973 when abortion was illegal in the U.S., American citizens were not bound to Catholic sacramental discipline or theology by observing the unlawfulness of murdering an unborn child. Kerry is a kook. Legal restrictions on abortion do not make Americans subject to Catholic theology or "articles of faith."

I suggest that Bishop O'Malley, Cardinal McCarrick, and the Jesuit superiors of Fr. Drinan (advising Kerry) exercise their pastoral functions and inform Kerry of his confusion and errors. Why would they NOT do this? And why would the Pope NOT instruct them to do this? Now.

"I can't take my Catholic belief, my article of faith, and legislate it on a Protestant or a Jew or an atheist,"

I didn't know it was only Catholics who were pro life. Aren't any Jews, Protestants, and atheists against abortion? I know an agnostic who believes life begins at conception.

John Kerry: "I have a set of core beliefs, I just don't use them in public."

Bishop John Keating summed it up pretty well about 10 years ago:

No one needs the revelation of God or an act of faith in his word to know that abortion is ethically and morally wrong. People of all faiths and of no faith at all can reason to that fact. Witnessing an abortion certainly accelerates the process.

The fact that the Church reaffirms a human right or a civil right of mankind does not make that human right or civil right a "religious belief." When the Church teaches that rape is wrong, the immorality of rape does not thereby become a "religious belief." When the Catholic Church continues to affirm—century after century, in every country the world over—that abortion is a gross distortion of human rights, a horrible crime against humanity, it is simply stating what civilized society, in its dispassionate and nobler moments, can figure out for itself, without the help of revealed religion.

In other words - John Kerry does not need to invoke his Catholicism for his DEFENSE of supporting abortion. The Moral Law, independent of his 'Catholicism' is telling his conscience that it is wrong. It is NOT a religious issue at all.

I posted the full statement here.

Far from mitigating his culpability, this admission effectively eliminates all doubt about his sinfulness in this matter. By admitting the humanity of abortion's victims, his continued defense of his votes in favor of the unrestricted and state funded murder of these innocent children becomes unambiguously grave and scandalous. His intent is now clear and his error certain.

Once again, Kerry is trying to confuse Christians into voting for him. If he thinks voting to ban partial-birth abortion violates the seperation of church and state, then he needs to explain why voting to use tax dollars to fund abortions does not.

kerry's Catholic beliefs are for show only. This creep has voted for partial birth abortion, is a regular defender of abortion rights and oh yes, is against capital punishment. He's a hypocrite at the very, very least.

Mr. Kerry, what religion finds the practice of abortion acceptable? Couldn't this argument be made for practically any issue?

...life begins at conception..

I have three comments with regard to Kerry's comment.

First, how courageous of him to affirm what is basically an irrefutable scientific fact. Next he will be issuing a statement in support of the law of gravity.

Secondly, if he "opposes" and "does not like" abortion, he must think it is an evil. If he truly thinks it is evil, he has a duty, by virtue of his position, to try to put a stop to it.

Finally, belief leads to action that is consistent with the belief. Kerry's actions show that he does not believe what he claims to believe. In other words, he's a contemptible liar. But, we already knew that, didn't we.

It's just the culmination of post-modernism and the moral relativism that now passes for right and wrong. What Kerry implies is that abortion is wrong, for him - not necessarily for anybody else. This leaves room for other opinions and diversity without any of that nasty judgement stuff that the religious right is always pushing. In this way he can continue to criticize the pro-life folks and, when needs be, snear upon the pro-choice folks. He is like catsup left out too long - luke warm.
