Good. Now he needs to answer for the military as to why he is in Lebanon.

Wasn't this the guy that the military originally said was AWOL? Now he shows up in Lebanon... Don't tell me his captors dropped him off there.

Now he needs to answer for the military as to why he is in Lebanon. Al Qaeda hopes he is forming the beginning of a 'new' marine corps unit.

I'm starting to think this guy wasn't AWOL. I can't see going through all of this and now asking for someone to come and get him.

Suspicious...
Comes to the US 4 years ago, joins Marines, goes awol, shows up with terrorists, promises not to rejoin Marines then gets released to Lebanon...
Pardon me as I tap my chin in utter skepticism of his convictions for our military.

Now he needs to answer for the military as to why he is in Lebanon. And how he got transit through Syria.

My question is..... Giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming he is a good guy that simply got captured. Now that it has been said that he has written an agreement to leave the US military, what exactly are the legalities of that? Can he actually do that legally?

Pardon me as I tap my chin in utter skepticism of his convictions for our military. To be fair, I love my country and military, but i'd say anything to a bunch of murderous kidnappers to avoid getting my throat cut.

Personally I don't think any arabs should be in our military. They cannot be trusted and our Americans have enough to deal with without having to watch their backs for their 'fellow soldiers'

Get him back and give him a Courts Martial. Can we Laz...I mean it is a Syrian controlled country.

Sure the story is strange.
But considering they had him blindfolded with a sword over his head, he's lucky to be alive, whatever the reason is.

Nope, he sure can't unless his enlistment is up. On the other hand, if he wrote it under duress and comes back and can explain everything he is ok.
Something doesn't smell right, however. How did he get to Lebanon?

I'm starting to think this guy wasn't AWOL. I can't see going through all of this and now asking for someone to come and get him.Maybe he wasn't AWOL, but rather volunteered to be captured so that he could GPS the bad guys. Far fetched, I know, but certainly possible.
To: Jivana108
I believe the rules for captured Americans changed around the time of the first gulf war. I believe he can do whatever it takes short of actively taking part in attacks against Americans.

Where does it say he was asking for someone to come get him? Seems he's just calling and saying"Hey, I'm ok, I'm alive. Don't worry."
But, I could be reading it wrong...
