Furor grows over Riordan's remark to girl

Bee Capitol Bureau Published 2:15 am PDT Friday, July 9, 2004 Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's office continued to back embattled Education Secretary Richard Riordan on Thursday amid growing outrage and demands for Riordan's resignation over his bizarre comment to a 6-year-old girl.

Note they pulled out of being outraged after they found out it wasn't a black child. Their own racism is sickening to me, as sickening as this idiot saying this to a little girl. Kids can't tell sarcasm, especially when sarcasm of this nature WASN'T appropriate in the setting.

This story is an outrage. He has donated millions to help minority kids, he got confused over what she said and said something dopey for which he immediately apologized, the child is absolutely fine.

Want to know what Riordan did wrong? Absolutely nothing. Go ahead and burn me at the cross. And get back to me when Bill and Hilary face the growing outrage from their angry use of the terms "nigger" and "jew bastard," in each case aimed at REAL minorities - like the ones Riordan has devoted his life to helping.

Riordan is an ass anyway. It was a stupid thing to say to any child. It reinforces the sterotype image of insensitive rich, white, male, country club Republicans. He needs to resign and go back to his yacht.

I am just shaking my head, trying to figure out why Riordan did say that. If he was joking, couldn't he have picked something that wouldn't be construed as an insult?

The danger here is that you are viewing this as an us-vs them conflict because Riordan accidentally checked the R on his voter registration form.

Dymally's office abruptly canceled the event, however, after learning that the girl is white. Dymally, who is African American, was quoted in Thursday's San Jose Mercury News stating that the girl was African American and asking whether Riordan "would ... have done that to a white girl?"

I guess the answer would be "Yes".

My source is the same news story, and whether Riordan is a communist, democrat or republican he simply did nothing wrong. The kid doesn't care. It was nothing. Zero. It lasted 2 seconds and he apologized. He did nothing wrong. You can all run in circles yelling "Aunty Em Aunty Em a twister!" but NOTHING happened.
