Hard to imagine this commonwealth was once the cradle of liberty.

And, of course, military, police and the body guards of our masters will be exempted...

Congratulations, Romney, you've helped accomplish something the British were never able to back in Jefferson's day.

“Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts,” Romney said, at a bill signing ceremony on July 1 with legislators, sportsmen’s groups and gun safety advocates. “These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.”

Tell that to the patriots that revolted against the tyranic and oppresive British government that was started in his very state.

Romney apparently believes that we, as citizens, do not get the same right to remove our govt as we see fit by matching up weapon for weapon like the American patriots.

I suppose that the next history texts will merely state that Paul Revere was a silversmith.

Massachusetts Governor Condemns Extremists

BOSTON - National guard units seeking to confiscate a cache of recently banned assault weapons were ambushed on April 19th by elements of a paramilitary extremist faction. Military and law enforcement sources estimate that 72 were killed and more than 200 injured before government forces were compelled to withdraw.

Speaking after the clash Massachusetts Governor Thomas Gage declared that the extremist faction, which was made up of local citizens, has links to the radical right-wing tax protest movement.

Gage blamed the extremists for recent incidents of vandalism directed against internal revenue offices. The governor, who described the group's organizers a "criminals," issued an executive order authorizing the summary arrest of any individual who has interfered with the government's efforts to secure law and order.

The military raid on the extremist arsenal followed wide-spread refusal by the local citizenry to turn over recently outlawed assault weapons. Gage issued a ban on military style assault weapons and ammunition earlier in the week. This decision followed a meeting in early this month between government and military leaders at which the governor authorized the forcible confiscation of illegal arms.

One government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, pointed out that "none of these people would have been killed had the extremists obeyed the law and turned over their weapons voluntarily." Government troops initially succeeded in confiscating a large supply of outlawed weapons and ammunition. However, troops attempting to seize arms and ammunition in Lexington met with resistance from heavily armed extremists who had been tipped off regarding the government's plans.

During a tense standoff in Lexington's town park, National Guard Colonel Francis Smith, commander of the government operation, ordered the armed group to surrender and return to their homes. The impasse was broken by a single shot, which was reportedly fired by one of the right-wing extremists.

Eight civilians were killed in the ensuing exchange. Ironically, the local citizenry blamed government forces rather than the extremists for the civilian deaths. Before order could be restored, armed citizens from surrounding areas had descended upon the guard units. Colonel Smith, finding his forces overmatched by the armed mob, ordered a retreat.

Governor Gage has called upon citizens to support the state/national joint task force in its effort to restore law and order. The governor also demanded the surrender of those responsible for planning and leading the attack against the government troops. Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, and John Hancock, who have been identified as "ringleaders" of the extremist faction, remain at large.

"Mitt" Romney revealed himself as the TRUE son of Limousine Liberal George Romney, who, I believe was part of the liberal Republican Cabal who refused to support Barry Goldwater, a conservative Republican who ran against Johnson in 1964.

DON'T forget this in the future when he tries to ooze himself to the top like other so-called "Republicans" like Giuliani, Schwarzenegger, Pataki, Whitman, Kean and McCain.

These people don't need guns - they can afford private armed bodyguards.

They don't even need the Constitution. They have the bucks to emigrate to Switzerland.

Massachusetts = Tories

It took a while for the Crown to take back Massachusetts as the land of good obedient subjects, but after over 200 years of unaccustomed freedom, it has!

“We are pleased to mark an important victory in the fight against crime,” said Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey.

My ass. Gimme one instance where the dreaded assault weapon was used in a crime in MA.

Another fine republican.

ASSAULT IS AN ACTION, NOT A DEVICE

Aren't Republicans wonderful? So principled. So consistent.

You always know what you're going to get when you vote for Republicans.

So when terrorists open-up with AK-47s on State St, do they get charged with excessive weaponry or will the cops just tell them that AKs were banned and ask them nicely to go home?

We need to have a serious discussion on the relevancy of the 2nd Amendment. Do we as a people have a right to defend ourselves or not?

Exactly, that*s why we NEED them! Foreign or domestic.

Don't these people ever read their own States Constitutions? Much less the Federal Constitution?

Article XVII. The people have a right to keep and to bear arms for the common defence. And as, in time of peace, armies are dangerous to liberty, they ought not to be maintained without the consent of the legislature; and the military power shall always be held in an exact subordination to the civil authority, and be governed by it.

The very type of firearm this moron just outlawed is the very type their Constitution tells them they have a RIGHT to have.

As much as I like Mitt, doing this permanently disqualifies him for the Presidency. He should also be voted out of office.
