Local Boy Made Huge

ROBBINS, N.C. — Two days after Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kerry announced his choice of North Carolina Sen. John Edwards (news - web sites) as a running mate, there was little evidence of the event in Edwards' rural, industrial hometown.

There were no banners, no balloons, no Kerry-Edwards lawn signs.

Although the owner of the Capt. Snipper Salon and Day Spa had put up a hand-lettered poster on the morning of the announcement — "Congradulations to John Edwards" — that poster was gone by the next day.

"We are all outliers up here," he said.

We are all-out liars up here," he said.

Yep, my friend in NC living near Robbins told me shortly after the Ketchupman's announcement that people in Robbins don't like Edwards. Flush the johns!

— with more than 2,000 factory jobs lost since 1990, people can feel their town's future constricting.

The factory jobs are leaving because the cost of litigation is such a heavy burden that it is cheaper to move to a location where trial lawyers don't sue you at the drop of a hat.

many people in this community of 1,200 remember Edwards fondly

There was little evidence of him being selected and yet he is remembered fondly. Doesn't sound like they remember him at all.

I don't know if I can take another three months of this.

Someone on another thread coined the slogan, "Botox and Bobby Sox".

Very fitting.

"Flush the johns!"

LOL...I was working on the "two-holer" angle (as in outhouses...get your minds out of the gutter) for the two Johns, but yours is much better!

Maybe someone in the town knows how to spell.

Get your friend to do a little reporting for FR. Edwards claims that he came from a poor family, that his dad was a millworker and his mom ran a shop and worked at the post office.

On Fox News the other night, it was mentioned that Edwards' father was the plant superintendent! And that he, John Edwards, "worked along side his father at the mill". (Nepotism?)

It would be interesting to see what kind of house they lived in, relative to others in the town. In his bio, Edwards doesn't mention any siblings. With a father who is probably the boss at the mill and a mother working two jobs, and an only child, it sounds to me like he's "doctoring up his resume".

Why wasn't the headline 'Local Boy would be run out of town if he ever shows his face there again"? I guess the Slimes didn't have room.

I read yesterday that #2 john didn't even carry his own county in his Senate election. This is the same problem we have with gephardt here in Missouri. Were it not for his district being downtown St. Louis, he would not be in Washington embarrassing us Missourians.

I agree, it will be interesting to see how accurate his resume really is. I know the RNC has done its homework. We will see.

Got a reply from my friend who lives in NC re my query as to her knowledge of Edwards. Here's her reply:

"I saw Edwards dad on tv yesterday morning and his dad was telling how hard up they were but I don't think that was the case. Yes, his dad worked at the mill and his mom probably worked also but they were not hard up. They live in the better part of town and in a brick house and the house looked well furnished. His dad is bald and combs his hair from the back of his head to the front; he looks so stupid. All the signs except one are down in Robbins and the only one that is up is very crude."
