Before Election Day draws near, the majority of voters will realize that Kerry is a big joke and Kerry-Edwards is even a bigger joke. The majority of voters will re-elect President Bush.

I am not necessarily advocating any of this, but it could have happened that way, and now we'd be facing a different set of problems.

Ahhh, but there is the rub. Isolationism does preclude some problems, but it presents its own unique set of problems.

Your musings could be wrong. If Hitler did not have to face us in Western and Southern Europe, he probably would have finished off Stalin and Great Britain. Given time to regroup and reinforce, he could have then taken us on with renewed strength. And don't be stupid, he would have taken us on in due time.

One lesson of our involvement in WWII has to be that we joined it almost too late, not too early. While you might wish or muse that perhaps we never would have had to join the fight, you would be deadly and tragically wrong, IMHO. And, I guess, you have no problem with consigning Hitler to finish off the Jews, his final solution, unimpeded. Or, the Jews in your opinion could have thrown themselves over to the tender mercies of Stalin, eh?

Got it wrong about North Ireland, every year North Ireland is becoming more Normal, more stable and more law abiding.

His point was not in general about North Ireland, it was about a specific accord a few years ago. What do you say about the specifics of Barone's example in North Ireland. Is it true that the appeased according to the recent accord he cited have not been and are demanding still more? Yes, or No?

Hate to break the news to the author, but appeasing is also just what Bush has been doing with regard to the terrorists in Israel.

Perhaps, but his overall policy is not one of appeasement, and this one aspect may be merely to allow us to concentrate on Iraq and Afghanistan while putting this on the back-burner.

re : Is it true that the appeased according to the recent accord he cited have not been and are demanding still more? Yes, or No?

Sticky point
Are the republicans demanding more : YES

Are the loyalist demanding more : YES

Are the main land political parties demanding more: Yet again YES.

Those doing the demanding are not run running, bomb planting terrorists, but even worse professional politicians. But politicians always demand more, just proves the process worked, we turned them into us.

As an aside, as an ex military man, I was called up to do my bit, back office work mostly. But on my return to civilian life, my department "Software development" was outsourced to an Indian company.

Call me mr cynic but I just cant help thinking that we are fighting a war to make this planet safe for the Chinese and Indians and I guess some of the other off shore manufacturing and software development, call centres back, middle and front office and anything else we can give away to someone else to do as it will cost a fraction as its a third world country, or reliant on slave labour.

But I bet they will thank us for our effort.

PS I am working again, but the parent company is in New York and they are talking about outsourcing my department to an Indian company.

Cheers Tony
