George and Weezy weren't perfect, George calling me "honky" during the Thanksgiving episode was particularly hurtful, and Weezy probably let me get away with more than she should, but I still get a warm, sentimental feeling whenever I stop by the drycleaners.

Well, unfortunately, George's ranting didn't stop with the verbal stuff. More than I care to remember, I found myself consoling Weezie after physical altercations with the little tyrant. In fact, she and I grew so close that we started a romantic relationship that made George even more hot-tempered. But, let's just say its a good thing that she had free use of a drycleaning establishment!

I just remember something about a lawsuit being involved. I don't think I would have just pulled that out of the air, but who knows? Maybe I'm getting it confused with another show.

A quick google search gave me this. Paragraph 5 says: "George owned a chain of cleaning stores (achieved after receiving a settlement from the city, as depicted in an early AITF episode), and eventually, he becomes so wealthy that the family moves on up to a high-rise apartment in a rich part of town.... as the very catchy theme song tells us." I'll see what else I can find.

God bless you, Weezy.

Thanks for those laugh filled evenings years ago.

PS. Still on reruns on TV Land.

Here's a possible 2004 story line:

The New York State Dept. of Environmental Protection files a lawsuit against the Jeffersons, heirs, and successors for damages resulting from the operations of 7 dry cleaning establishments and the chemical contamination (perchloride) of the groundwater and surrounding environment.

The result of this is that George loses everything and ends up working as Florence's butler after she wins the $300 million dollar USA Lotto...

Sorry to hear about this- she was older than I thought. She was a good actress- may she rest in peace.

A couple of months ago, she and Sherman Hemsley appeared together at the "TV Land Awards" (a really campy parody of other awards shows). They won the award for "Most Cantankerous Couple". She had a great deal of difficulty walking across the stage, then made some comments when accepting the award that seemed a little bizarre. Everyone on the stage politely laughed and applauded, but it was obvious that she was not in good health.

May God grant her eternal peace in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Well, I spent most of my unproductive day yesterday running searches for every combination of All in the Family, The Jeffersons, George Jefferson, wealth, wealthy, rich, successful, lawsuit, suit, sued, sue, city, settlement, judgment, Jeffersons trivia, early episodes All in the Family, and All in the Family trivia, that you can imagine, and that link is the only one I came up with. Now I'm going to have to go out and rent the first season of All in the Family to find out if I just dreamed this whole thing up. Now that my curiosity is piqued, it won't quit nagging me. They'd better have All in the Family DVDs at Blockbuster, otherwise, I'm not going to be able to sleep for a year!

Just curious, what made you find a nine-month-old post about Isabel Sanford?

Damn! Another entertainer dead! Soon we shall be running out of entertainers. It seems that everytime I turn around, somebody else dies. When will the madness end? Consider all that we have lost in the past few weeks alone...

That Molly Hatchet singer guy. Johnny Cash. Johnny Cochran. Johnny DeLorean. Johnny Cash. And some other Johnny whose last name I cannot remember. Frank Perdue, the chicken guy - dead, dead, dead. Rueben Kincaid (of Partridge Family fame) dead. SO is 'Ol Miserable Bastard (I hardly knew ye 'Ol Miserable Bastard!). Chris Ledoux is dead but his tapes live on. Hunter Thompson is dead. And so is half of McFadden and Whitehead. Sammi Smith, Neil Sedaka, Laura Branigan, and that dude who drummed for that one rock group all dead. And they are NEVER coming back.

People just keep on dying, dying, dying. And now we hear of the death of this here Jefferson woman. This madness HAS GOT to stop.
