THE communist movement will lead moves to overthrow the Arroyo administration if Angelo de la Cruz is beheaded by his abductors in Iraq.
In a statement Gregorio Ka Roger Rosal, spokesman for the Communist Party of the Philippines, accused President Arroyo of sacrificing the lives of overseas Filipino workers by supporting the US-backed invasion of Iraq.
“The Arroyo regime is responsible for putting the lives of Filipino workers in Iraq and the Middle East in danger, and now the dire fate and danger to the life of de la Cruz,” Rosal said.
“It is the full responsibility of the puppet Arroyo government whatever happens to Angelo de la Cruz. The moment his head is severed, we will do everything to ensure that the Arroyo government will be overthrown. The revolutionary movement promises to do everything to hasten the downfall of [Mrs.] Arroyo if de la Cruz is beheaded,” Rosal added.
De la Cruz, a Filipino driver in Saudi Arabia, was abducted by the Iraqi rebels on Wednesday.
The group threatened to behead him unless the Philippine government withdrew its 51-member humanitarian mission from Iraq.
The government has yet to announce the withdrawal of the mission despite a clamor from various sectors, including the communist movement.
The withdrawal of troops from Iraq is “an immediate and just demand,” said Rosal. “They should not have been sent there. The invasion and occupancy by the US of Iraq is an act of imperialist aggression and is immoral and unjust.”
Rosal described de la Cruz as “the sacrificial lamb of the puppetry of [Mrs.] Arroyo to [US President George W.] Bush.”
“We call on the broad Filipino masses to unite, join and show whatever form of support to the family of Angelo de la Cruz,” Rosal said, foreseeing the possible start of a “wide movement around the country” that may arise from de la Cruz’s death

Senior U.S. and Philippine military officials said the three weeks of exercises will be held at an army camp in the heartland of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
"A reconnaissance team from both sides will start this week an initial survey of the proposed training area," a Philippine army official told Reuters.
The MILF, the largest Muslim rebel group in the largely Roman Catholic country with about 12,000 guerrillas, is holding to a ceasefire as peace talks with the government inch forward.
Despite the truce, soldiers in the area are still trying to root out an estimated 30 to 40 militants from Jemaah Islamiah, a Southeast Asian group linked to al Qaeda, who have infiltrated the Philippines through its porous southern coast.
Jemaah Islamiah is blamed for deadly attacks in the region, including bombings on the Indonesian island of Bali in October 2002 that killed 202 people. Philippine forces say they have arrested several foreign members of the group in the past two years.
The MILF, which denies any links to Jemaah Islamiah, is due to meet government officials in central Cebu City on Friday to finalise an agreement on how to hunt down the militants.
The small-unit drills by U.S. and Philippine soldiers will be part of "Bayanihan '04" (Cooperation) exercises, the latest in a series of counter-terror training that began in 2002.
Communist rebels from the New People's Army will eventually become targets of the mobile units, military sources said.

That's a key element in the bravado we in America hope on other nations.
It seems to me the WOT is disarming common people and leaving the whack-jobs and the military.
I know, it's been going on for a lot more years that recent ones, but there doesn't seem to be any effort to arm citizens to protect themselves ... like we did in WW2 with the 'Liberator'
