Edwards Good; Cheney Bad
Fort Worth Star-Telegram ^ | 07-12-2004 | Jessie Milligan and Alyson Ward

Posted on 07/12/2004 12:36:01 PM PDT by LibertyJihad

When Sen. John Edwards reappeared on our political radar last week, we realized that we remembered just two things about him: his great hair and his sound bite about "two Americas." And Vice President Dick Cheney? Well, he's spent much of the past four years in an undisclosed location, so we dusted off his bio, too.

TOPICS: Politics/Elections; US: Texas
KEYWORDS: bias; cheney; edwards; fortworth; media; startelegram; veep
This comparison of Edwards and Cheney doesn't even try to hide the authors' bias. It ran in the Living section of the paper and purports to give an impartial yet humorous comparison of the veep candidates.

To make matters worse, take a look at the pdf file of the front page of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. They have dueling photos of Edwards and Cheney. Edwards is bright and happy, while Cheney is sneering and angry.

AND?

Well, he could've been missing 86% of the Senate vote, but that would be different, wouldn't it?

The article is sophmoric and a waste of time. But even with all this bias it was hard for them to hide Cheney's impressive experience compared to Edwards lightweight experience.

Cheney has worked for 4 Presidents, six terms as a representative and CEO for Haliburton. Edwards has only 4 years total experience in government (the last year he has been running for President and playing hookey from the Senate) and is a blood-sucking trial lawyer.

"CHENEY: Washington insider who has worked for four Republican presidents and has served six terms as a representative from Wyoming. For five years, served as CEO of Halliburton, an oil-field construction company.

EDWARDS: Washington outsider who was a personal-injury trial lawyer for 20 years before serving one term as a senator from North Carolina."

I didn't see this but heard that a reporter asked President Bush what was the biggest difference between (I can't remember his name) and Vice President Cheney. President Bush answered, Vice President Cheney is ready to be president of these great United States of America". Ad-libing just a little at the end.

Edwards is a slimey lawyer. An all hair and smiles do nothing senator who made his millions exploiting people's tragedies. Dick Cheney is a dedicated public servant who left the private sector to come back and serve again. Thank you Dick Cheney, you have been a great veep and you'll be great in your second term.

But there are TWO AMERICAS!

North America and South America. How dare you undermine Edward's brilliant grasp of the inane.

WHAT THEY'RE WORTH (or Cheney is too damn rich)

Cheney: Reported assets include up to $75 million in tax-exempt bond funds and as much as $10 million in stocks.

Edwards: Lists assets of at least $19 million.

>>Why is Cheney "up to" and Edwards "at least". Are they trying to make Edwards look poor when compared to Cheney?<<

PAST JOBS (or Cheney lies while Edwards toils)

Cheney: Cook on Union Pacific Railroad; fudge stirrer in candy factory.

Edwards: Shift work in textile factory.

>>What the hell is a "fudge stirrer"? Were the authors attempting to conjure up an image of someone who "fudges"?<<

WHOM THEY'RE MARRIED TO (or Lynn is bimbo and Elizabeth a saint)

Lynne V. Cheney was a state champion baton twirler when Dick, captain of the football team, met her in high school.

Elizabeth Edwards was John's law school sweetheart at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was a prosecutor in the North Carolina Attorney General's Office and was in private practice until recent years.

>>So Dick Cheney (fudge stirrer) married Lynn Cheney (baton twirler) while John Edwards (textile worker) married Elizabeth Edwards (lawyer).<<

HEALTH (or Cheney is walking death while Edwards is the fountain of youth)

To prevent further heart problems (he's had four heart attacks and quadruple-bypass surgery), urged to adopt four-day-a-week exercise regimen, including aerobic activity and upper-body conditioning.

Climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in 1995; has run marathons.

>>It is apparent that Dick Cheney is near death, while John Edwards is a fine physical specimen.<<

Why not just reprint articles from the Nation in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram?

Edwards was right that there are two Americas, one creates wealth and one schemes to expropriate wealth.

I second that!!! I LOVE Cheney! We even named our cat after Cheney because our cat is gray and wise and good looking. (Of course, he's not sexy like Cheney.)

Ever since Knight Ridder bought the FW Star it has lost massive readership. They can't compete when Dallas Morning News services the same areas. Fort Worth is still considered a suburb of Dallas to many.

Don't be fooled into thinking that any major/or mid size news papers are anything but liberal. Even here in a heavy Republican state like Texas.
The Star Telegram is liberal. It and the Dallas Morning News show extensive bias. And its not just on the editorial pages either. Both papers can't get stories correct to save their collective life. We cancelled our subscription to those papers months ago.
Dallas Morning News seems real connected to BELO..which owns channel 8 in the Dallas area. Channel 8 can't seem to go two days without misreporting things.

Easy.

The Nation is far too dull for mainstream newspaper readers. If you reprinted those articles, you'd lose 90% of the audience. Not because of left bias, you understand, but thanks to record levels of dullness.

Kinda like a more lengthly version of a Kerry speech, come to think of it.

This is the first time I have ever heard of Cheney being the railroad cook. From Lynne's mouth:

For example, when he was growing up, one of the most important adults in his life was his grandfather who was a cook on the Union-Pacific railroad.
I have heard Dick talk about visiting his grandparents, staying with them in the railroad car in which they lived, and traveling up and down the line as his granddad cooked for the section gangs. This was not only an enormous adventure for a boy of 9 or 10, Dick learned from his time with his grandfather that cooking is an honorable male occupation.

At my age, I just expect the papers to be ultra biased to the left.

You must be very young to expect otherwise...

Everything today is perception. Dick Chaney has become a libelity to the Bush administration because of the perception generated by the left that he is somehow behind the Enron & Haliburton scandle. It makes no difference that this has no rational in basis. The reality is many people see Chaney has the man behind the invasion of Iraqi and that he is the defacto president. If we are to win in November then Chaney has to go before he ruins the chances of Bush winning again. His use of the F word and his causal attitude in explaining the use of the word has upset many social conservatives who form our base. We have to remember perception is everything in politics.

We have to remember perception is everything in politics. Perception is everything? That is why the biased media is a runaway train. I'll do my best to base my voting on facts.
