It started with one first class passenger asking a soldier what seat he was sitting in, as he passed by in the airplane's isle. The soldier mentioned a seat in the back, but the passenger in 1st class told him no, you're taking MY seat.
The reporter began by letting us all know that there were a group of soldiers returning from a year long deployment in Iraq. They were on a plane taking them back to their individual homes from a more centralized group landing point.
As these few soldiers got on the plane, and started to make their way to the back (coach) part of the plane, a soldier was asked where he was sitting, by a first class passenger. The soldier told the passenger, and the passenger told the soldier, "No, you're sitting here," and got up to switch seat assignments with the soldier.
That would have been nice enough, but what followed was even more wonderful...
Each and every first class passenger got up, and gave their seats to one of the remaining soldiers!
This IS America. This is what it means to be an AMERICAN!
This story should motivate all of us, to do our OWN "something wonderful," when we can, and to be more proud to be an American!

this is really great! its great to hear the soldiers are gettin the respect they well deserve! they deserve much more than this but this is a start!
Just a bunch of "rich" Republicans no doubt. Therefore the mainstreamers can ignore the story.(big time sarcasm on)

Sounds like an urban myth to me unless they state the time, day, and airline this took place on.
While transferring flights in Atlanta - soldiers were everywhere - apparently back from Iraq for the most part.
While none were on my flights, they did gets lots of "attaboy" type and "God Bless" comments throughout.
It was nice to see them all!
Sure hope that's true. That kind of gestures means the world to those guys.
This gives me hope.
They have brought Honor unto themselves by doing so.
My son just came home for two weeks after being in Iraq since Sept. He got a great welcome at the Atlanta airport. People offered to by him dinner and beer and he was bumped up to first class, he told me "mom they made me feel important". I told him he was important no matter how much he hears from the negative press. He is back in Iraq to finish his tour and stills speaks of the wonderful Americans who made his trip home welcoming.
I had to correct a minor problem a returning soldier was having on a recent flight I took. The airline clerk didn't want to help, until things were, um, explained properly. As far as the seat-trading goes, I traded seats with some folks so this particular soldier (who'd been up for about three days) could get some much-needed sleep on the aircraft. Like I said, after the airline rep had things explained to them in a manner they understood, they were extremely helpful.
Yeah, you can. I was just on a flight where a husband and wife had scheduled late enough that they could not reserve seats together. After asking the flight attendent if it was okay, someone switched with the husband so that they could sit together.
