Car explodes in Gaza after grenades go off prematurely
By Arnon Regular, Haaretz Correspondent, Haaretz Service and Reuters
A car exploded in Gaza City on Monday night after locally made hand grenades detonated prematurely, Palestinian security sources said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties in the explosion, which eyewitnesses initially said was caused by an Israeli helicopter missile strike.
Israel Defense Forces operating in the Deheisheh refugee camp near Bethlehem demolished the house of Ala Abdel Karim Safafi, detained in Israel on charges he was involved in several suicide bombings in Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, a wheelchair-bound Palestinian was killed as the IDF destroyed or seriously damaged a dozen houses in Gaza's Khan Yunis refugee camp in the early morning hours on Monday. The IDF claims the houses were uninhabited and used by gunmen to fire at the neighboring Gush Katif settlement bloc.
Palestinian sources said that large numbers of IDF troops entered the west side of the camp with bulldozers, tanks and armored personnel carriers.
Around 4 A.M. the tractors destroyed a house in which Mahmoud Halfalla, 70, resided, Palestinian sources said. The wheelchair-bound man did not manage to escape from the house. After the IDF left the area, Halfalla's body was found in the wreckage, the sources said.
In the last few days, the IDF entered the Khan Yunis region several times and destroyed houses near Gush Katif. While some of the houses were indeed used for terror attacks, Palestinians sources said the IDF destroyed dozens of houses, some of them far from areas where attacks were carried out.
Sunday night the IDF destroyed the house of Islamic Jihad activist Nasser Hazimia in Qabatiyah, south of Jenin, who carried out a 2001 shooting attack in which an Israeli woman was killed. Hazimia planned and sent gunmen to carry out several other shooting attacks against IDF soldiers in the West Bank.
Meanwhile, IDF troops arrested four wanted Palestinians during the night Sunday. Two men were arrested in Hebron, one was nabbed in Doha, east of Bethlehem, and a Hamas operative was arrested near Ramallah.
Elsewhere, in the West Bank, Palestinians opened fire on an IDF force near Qabatiyah and in a separate incident, militants opened fire on troops in Ramallah. No injuries or damage were reported in either of the incidents.
Shi'ite happens when you play with hand grenades.
Dontcha just HATE it when that happens...
You notice the media still calls them 'refugee camps'. They are only 'refugee camps' because the Palestinian Authority wants them to be.
Boobs. Its a shame this "incidents" dont happen in the "camps" themselves..
I wonder if the driver was hurt?
Hmm... Palestinian TV program, "This Old Hamas" . Today Najjar builds some grenades.
Yeah, that happens all the time. Just driving around, enjoying the fresh air, with a backseat full of home-made hand grenades, just minding my own business...
How many virgins do you get for pulling a Gilligan?
I hate premature ejac...explosions!
This incident was reported on Swedish text TV and it was stated that 4 people were killed. (Lots of raisins...)
When I read it I was certain that it was a case of "auto-explosion" (pun intended).
Yet another wheelchair-bound man killed by Israeli bulldozers. I'm sure I've heard this story before.
I think what happens is they go into some type of jihad purgatory, where they can look but don't touch.
There were no immediate reports of casualties in the explosion, which eyewitnesses initially said was caused by an Israeli helicopter missile strike.
No wonder Jordan doesn't want them, either...
Thanks for that first, Tuesday morning laugh!
That's exactly what I thought.
I had visions of that cartoon with all those frogs coming out of a frog leg companies back door in wheelchairs.
Sounds like a profitable business (wheelchair supply) in that neck of the woods desert.
I think you mean "premature jihadulation"?!!
Ping!
"I don't think you shou...
"....after locally made hand grenades detonated prematurely"
It's hard the keep good QA/QC guys around........
Sounds to me like the grenades worked just fine, though.
Hand grenade maker. That's one job I don't want.
