H. Thomas Hayden: World War IV
Military.com ^ | July 12, 2004 | H.Thomas Hayden

July 12, 2004

Many may not realize it but the United States is engaged in our fourth world war. There was World War I (1914-1918), World War II (1939-1945), World War III (The Cold War: 1950-1990), and now World War IV, which started 9-11-01 and expanded with the invasion of Iraq and is now spreading all over the world.

Some are calling it a clash of civilizations.

Due to the lack of experienced military personnel in the White House and the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate, it is most likely that those who are trusted with the responsibility to lead the defense of the United States know not what they do.

There have been two colossal Intelligence failures in the last year:

1. Saddam Hussein and his alleged Weapons of Mass Destruction, and the alleged threat to the region and vital U.S. national security interest.

2. The total lack of understanding of the Arab Muslim culture, psyche, and eagerness for martyrdom.

While I believe that Saddam would need to be removed if the U.N. would not do it, I did NOT support the half-baked concept of operation, the inept and misguided "occupation" mentality, the void created by the low number of "occupation" troops, the disbanding of the Iraqi army, and the firing of the entire governing apparatus. The invasion should have been done swiftly and with overwhelming force.

It is the second failure of ALL the U.S. intelligence agencies to fully appraise the uneducated and totally unprepared National Command Authorities on basic Arab Muslim culture. This brings on the utmost concern for the future.

Anyone with half a brain or who has ever lived in any part of a strict Muslim Arab country could explain the psyche of the macho Arab Muslim male and could have predicted the fight that is being seen throughout Iraq.

Now the Homeland Defense Agency tells us to prepare for the war that is to come to the very steps of every city hall in America.

Unfortunately, the liberal dominated news media, and the highly gullible, liberal representatives, both Democrat and Republican, would give all the rights and freedoms needed by the mujahadin jihadist to totally destroy the United States of America.

The first strike in World War IV came on 9-11-01. Now we have a written declaration of war.

"The Mujahidin's Roadmap," distributed by the Abu-Hafs al-Masri Brigades (Al Qaeda) and translated by FBIS on July 1, 2004, lists their aims in the coming stage:

1. To enlarge the circle of the struggle by distributing the operations all over the world.

2. Undermine the investor's confidence in the U.S. economy.

3. Expose the Crusader-Zionist scheme.

4. Scatter and exhaust the enemy.

After these steps comes the role of the anticipated strike by the mujahidin that will make the United States yield or break its will and leave its agents so that the mujahidin can settle accounts with the allies of the United States, both in the West and the "peaceful" Muslim countries.

"The brothers (Muslim) from the victorious community are required:

1. To be sincere in your devotion to Allah the Exalted and know that victory is at the doors...

2. To form small organizations under different names, like Monotheism and Jihad Group, the Abu-Hafs al-Masri Brigades, etc. This will make it difficult for the enemy to discover and hunt them down and will scatter the security organs' efforts.

3. To learn jihad on the basis of the Shari'ah (Muslim law).

4. To undergo physical and military training, and to spread this among the sons, relatives, clans those who will come next because the battle will be long.

5. To learn modern skills like computers, the Internet, and anything that is of use...

6. To ignite a psychological war against the enemy."

The nation (Islam) is required to pray for the mujahidin and support them morally and financially. They are required to establish small cells inside and outside the cities and shelter them. They say: "Therefore, when ye meet the unbelievers [in fight], smite them at their necks; at length, when ye have thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly [on them] thereafter [is the time] either generosity or ransom."

A message to Sheik Usama bin Laden and those with him:

"…along the course we are continuing, determined to fight, and wishing [to meet] our Allah. It is perseverance until death, Allah willing."

A message to the martyrs:

"Among the believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah… Your chaste bodies pave the road of jihad… Our dead are in paradise and their dead are in hell."

The strategy with the enemy (U.S.A.) is:

"Allah the Exalted and Sublime says: 'O ye who believe, persevere in patience and constancy; vie in such perseverance; strengthen each other; and fear Allah; that ye may prosper.'"

Summary:

"The Americans, Jews, and the Crusader West are our enemies, and they are combatants. They must be killed wherever they are caught. Arabs and Muslims who support them are considered to be like them and must be killed because they are apostates."

From the sayings of mujahid Sheik Abdallah Azzam: "O preachers of Islam, seek death and [everlasting] life will be given to you."

A final translation by FBIS:

"Let Muslims be assured that the strike is coming to the United States like the morning dawn, but at the proper place and time for the mujahidin. We will obtain victory..."

I've considered this for a long time. This is a clash of nations, not countries. The final solution will not be pretty, and there will be no civilian bystanders.

Keep your eye to the sky, and your powder dry!

Esactly. What a waste of morning reading time. This guy would've even gone in "with overwhelming force" and "done swiftly." Wow. If we had done it any more quickly we would've had to have conquered it before we began the invasion.

While I believe that Saddam would need to be removed if the U.N. would not do it, I did NOT support the half-baked concept of operation

H.Thomas Hayden does not say what he would have done differently here. Would he have assasinated Saddam and let Uday or Cusay take over? Would he have left him in power giving him real WMDs (Remember Saddam had massive programs to attain WMDs)? The premise that this is was a 'half-baked concept' needs to be prooven, and the operation he would have done exhibited IMHO.

Expose the Crusader-Zionist scheme

I think this says more about the author than his topic. Throwing names and slander around doesn't forward ones cause - only hot air.

Was the guy sleeping thru the clinton administration? WW4 didn't start on 9-11. It started long before that. We just didn't fight back until the invasion of Afganistan.

The most dismaying part of the current conflict is that the soccer moms don't really understand that we are at war. Oh sure, they are (vaguely) aware that we are fighting in Iraq and soldiers are being killed, but they seem to believe the liberals who have more or less convinced them of the fairy tale that if we leave Iraq and don't bother the terrorists, they won't bother us and we can all live happily ever after. The average person hasn't been personally affected by the war. They haven't had to sacrafice and, because of short memories and attention spans, 9/11 is a fading memory.

We are in a fight for survival with a foe that understands only one thing - brute force! The strategy of pacification and making friends with the populace is a "feel good" strategy, but it hasn't worked since the end of World War II, when the population was utterly defeated. It didn't work in Vietnam and it won't work now. Instead of "pussy footing" around in places like Fallejah, we need to use an iron fist! To hell with world opinion, they already hate us anyway because we are successful and free.

But the Cold War wasn't WWIII, it was 'the Cold War.'

World War III is the war underway now.

He makes a painfully accurate assessment here.

We are in a World War - a World War of cultures and peoples - not a localized police action like the Korean Conflict or Viet Nam. This is bigger, hotter and more dangerous than the Cold War and potentially more dangerous than WW2. In WW2 we only had one opponent who produced a class of suicide warriors. Here we are facing an entire culture of millions of people who think along those lines or are potentially capable of thinking along those lines.

Neither the current Administration nor its opposition really appears to understnad the magnitude of the threat facing us, or, for political reasons, fails to adequately address it.

Our continued passive stance vis-a-vis the Islamic community in America and our continued allowance of the construction of more anti-American Mosques and Madrassehs, their recruitment of anti-American Muslim elements right here in America and the continued influx of Islamic immigrants is symptomatic of of the failure of our elected officials in both parties to seriously address this dangerous and growing threat.

I agree with the author of the piece for the most part.

I think it's amusing that everyone is busy castigating the author, but no one is commenting on the explicit Mujahadin roadmap. I debated posting it because I, like most people here, don't agree with his personal assessment, however, the information within the article is very important:

1. To enlarge the circle of the struggle by distributing the operations all over the world.
2. Undermine the investor's confidence in the U.S. economy.
3. Expose the Crusader-Zionist scheme.
4. Scatter and exhaust the enemy.

Point #2 jives with NY Post article claiming Al Qaeda is targeting Wall St. 9/11 did not produce the economic chaos which was intended... they will try again.

Well, I have heard Bush address it, although only once, when he talked about the destruction of an American city. When Rice talked about mushroom clouds, she was rebuked as recently as this weekend on Meet the Press by Rockefeller. But, I agree, the administration has been inept in articulationg the need to destroy terrorists before they destroy the soccer mom's kids. Might help them in the election too.

But this failing is shared by the author. He articulates strategies but not war aims of the enemy. Does the foe want Islamization of the world or only to be left alone in Muslim lands? Does he want to control policies abroad on behalf of Muslim minorities? Does he merely want America to abandon its support of Israel, and the destruction of Israel? Unless you know the enemy's war aims it is hard to defeat him.

Very true. And as most military people know, occupation doesn't work in the long run because the occupied resent the foreign troops, and lack of freedoms during occupation. However, Bush is trying to turn the country back over to the Iraqis as fast as possible. He understands and has learned from history while others are doomed to repeat it.

Numerous experts on Islam far more intelligent than I have it quite clear that Islam's goal is nothing short of total Islamization of the entire world and the reduction to Dhimmitude of all non-believers who are Christians and
Jews. And this is pretty well laid out both in the past history of Islam and its founding documents.

This is ANOTHER issue Bush could take advantage of, if he wasn't strangled by his own misplaced political correctness on Islam.

I agree that the Islamists' war goal is the islamization of the world but I am not convinced that is the goal of the whole of Islam.

This is not just semantics, it is very important distinction. Waging a war against more than a billion Muslims is quite a different undertaking from a war against a fraction of that number. More, if this war is to won, ultimately it will be won by rational Muslims killing the crazies because they must to save themselves.

The democrats complain that Bush's unilateralism has turned the whole Islamic world against us but I see Musharraf, Karzai,Qaddafi, the provisional Iraqi government, and now the Saudis digging in to save themselves.

Anyway, we must understand them to divide them and we must divide them to defeat them.
