So, how quickly can she get out for good time?
That's ok. She'll make a mint on this with a book, various interviews and appearances, and have a new tv show.
To: TomGuy
You'd think that her fans, with all of their arts and crafts ability, could make better looking signs.

The judge has gotten thousands of letters asking of mercy and probation. I am sad to say I did not get my letter off to him. The one asking for a public hanging. Ah, mores the pity, lost opportunities.

Martha owns 6 homes.
Picked home in Bedford as the place where she will be confined. (Rough. lol. That would be like being confined to 5 months at one of Teraaaza's estate homes.)

She wouldn't have been charged at all if she hadn't lied to investigators.

FIVE months in prison, five months house arrest and two years probation.
She should complain? NOT!
$30,000 fine with a $400 additional assessment...
The judge has given Martha Stewart the choice where she wants to spend her house arrest.
Martha will get to wear a nice little bracelet in her Bedford home.
Big deal...she can go out for medical, religious services and shopping for necessities.
Big deal!

They'll probably start a reality show now: "Behind Bars with Martha" or something like that. It wouldn't be any more inane than the other bilge they try to pass off as entertainment these days.

Yes. But, Martha was offered a 'deal' months ago. It was something like a $30k fine and 6 months probation. She declined. She has been a "B" during the early investigation, etc.
She brought this on herself. She should consider herself lucky that this is the worst she got.

What a joke.
Exactly. Us little people would have served the entire 16 months. And that 30K fine? Chump change to Martha. We would have been fined 75K and would hav killed us.
As a conselation(sic)maybe someone will wipe that smug look off her face in the 5 months time she serves. We can only hope.
To: q_an_a
She lied and was caught so yes, she violated the law and should be penalized. However, the application of the law against these violations takes place on a very limited basis.
This type of insider trading happens everyday across America. It doesn't make it right. But, when applying the law, it should be done consistently or the law itself loses credibility and impact.
What's worse? What Martha Stewart did and was caught doing or the fact that many others continue to do this with no repercussions at all?
Laws are useless unless applied consistently and credibly.
