The world thought communism had heard its death knell in 1987 when President Ronald Reagan exhorted ''Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!'' Communism as the world knew it then did begin its downfall.
But, slyly, the evil of communism did not fully die.
It exists today in the form of socialism. The 45 communist goals read into the Congressional Record in 1963 clearly show its relationship to socialism, and reveal its continuing goal to take over America. (Google ''45 communist goals'')
Most Americans probably associate 1963 with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Widespread civil discord and Martin Luther King, Jr.’s arrest in Birmingham happened that year. Andy Warhol’s soup can hung in the Guggenheim, and the hit movies were ''The Birds'' and ''Dr. Strangelove.''
The United States and theKremlin employed a now-quaint ''hotline'' to improve communication. The Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis in the preceding two years had contributed to the idea of mutually assured destruction that was on the world’s mind.
Amid all the chaos, early in that year of 1963, history left a clue for the future.
Florida Congressman Albert Herlong, Jr., at the request of anti-communist Patricia Nordman, read into the Congressional Record the 45 communist goals that were contained in Cleon Skousen’s ''The Naked Communist.'' Through those prescient actions, all Americans are reminded of a never fully abandoned plot. Communism-turned-socialism still intends to take over America incrementally.
Communism is antithetical of capitalism. In Marxian theory, socialism is the stage between the two.
Socialism happens in America when government veers from its constitutionally granted powers, and decides it can ''redistribute.'' It shifts the tax burden, designates some as ''more equal'' than others, manipulates media, denies some rights, and relinquishes other rights. These things have been happening incrementally for decades in America.
Article I, Section 8, of the Constitution listed specific rules for taxation. The 16th Amendment modified that. What has come about, however, would confound the Founders. Half of the wage earners in America pay 96% of all income taxes. By definition the other Half pays little--or none.
Inequity is not only at the bottom. Multimillionaire Teresa Heinz Kerry reportedly paid a much smaller percentage of taxes than did our substantially less-rich President Bush.
Minorities in America, by declaring the right ethnicity, can win special privileges. Asians, however, usually need not apply. Few seem to worry about the inherent ''soft bigotry of lowered expectations'' this causes.
The careers of extremely liberal (and biased) news anchors stretch over decades, their sinking ratings exceeded only by their mounting errors. But Fox News Channel, scrupulously fair and balanced, is gang attacked.
Not a peek of anything Christian is tolerated in public, not even a tiny cross under a collar after school. Yet by default, the religion of secularism is vaulted.
Politicians publicly extol the United Nations, at the peril of our own American sovereignty. Democrat presidential candidate John Kerry has repeatedly called for subjugating our interests to the dictates of the United Nations. Yet a look inside the United Nations reveals manifest corruption, dictators as rulers, and a visceral hatred of the freedom of America.
It is time to look again at some of the communist goals:
Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.
Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions, by claiming their activities violate civil rights.
Infiltrate the press.
Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.
Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with ''social'' religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity, which does not need a ''religious crutch.''
Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in schools on the grounds that it violates the principle of ''separation of church and state.''
Discredit the American founding fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the ''common man.''
Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of ''the big picture.''
Promote the United Nations as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government, with its own independent armed forces.
Those are 9 of the 45. Americans must realize that communism has morphed to socialism, and it still is targeting America. Subsequent articles will address the progress of additional goals.
4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.
No surprise here, I have said for years that Socialism was nothing but another word for Marxism/Communism.
Except that the socialists and communists hate each other.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (news - web sites)(R) was given a speaking slot at this month's Democratic National Convention in Boston, after party leaders initially denied the former first lady a place in the spotlight, officials said on July 15, 2004. Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites)(L), who will be officially named party nominee at the July 26-29 gathering, delivered the speaking invitation personally after phoning Clinton on Thursday, a source familiar with the situation said. Kerry and Clinton are seen at a rally in New York City, July 9. (Jim Young/Reuters)
Communism is one form of Socialism. They have differences and competitive instincts, but these are like family disagreements. They share the same goals, sometimes fight over nuances and power sharing.

In the sense that it is a matter of degree, yes. However, Communism as espoused by Marx had one other ingredient which Socialism lacks -- "dictatorship of the proletariat" through the vehicle of the Party. Most forms of socialism don't have that in any overt form. It might be the end result of socialism in many countries, but the concept of a worldwide monolithic governing party (for the good of the people, of course) seems to be lacking in Socialism.

Huh?
4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.
Just needs a nudge for the head in the sand people here. Now don't flame me - hit the commies & this fraud "Two-Party Cartel".

Liberals want to socialize the economy.
Conservatives want to socialize the culture.
The left-right political spectrum hides the fact that both parties embrace creeping authoritarianism, whatever the name.
Third Party freedom fighters
"creeping authoritarianism"
No accident.
They did it this way to get more press and make sure Bush got no press.
It worked.
Another Ashcroftian socon heard from.
Well said....it's just a matter of THESIS-ANTITHESIS-SYNTHESIS....the Hegelian dialectic.
