I am a quilter and also a quilt collector. On many trips to lancaster County I have purchased quilts from Hanna Stoltzfus. I wonder if it was she who presented the quilt to President Bush. I would not be surprised!

Could be, but "Stoltzfus" is like "Smith" or "Jones" in the Amish country. For example, I bought my shed from Stoltzfus Woodworking in Leola (which is near Lancaster). There's also a Stoltzfus restaurant nearby, a Stoltzfus insurance agency, etc. etc...

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking when I saw that line. I had to reread it 4 or 5 times to make sure I read it correctly.

Odds are likely that it will be missed, as leftists have nothing but utter contempt and ridicule for religious folk like the Amish.

Nah, it's about 10 times Smith or Jones.

I go through Lancaster County a dozen times a year; look at the mailboxes; some absurd % are "Stoltzfus."

The Amish are quite wealthy, something a lot of people don't realize.

What percentage of the rest are Yoders, Burkholders, and Millers?

“I trust God speaks through me."

I seriously doubt he made that statement.

You know you are a Seinfeld addict when the images and voice of Jerry and Kramer appear in my head when reading that, complete with vocal pauses. :)

I believe he means God works through him, as He does through all over us. We all fit into God's plan when we go through our lives.

Not even a sparrow falls without it being the will of God.

Big THANK YOU for pinging me to this thread ... I'd missed it.

Dubya is such a genuine guy, such a caring person.

The Amish are such genuine people.

I visited an Amish community in Iowa, went through a woolen mill, ate at a cafe owned by an Amish family (gooooood fried chicken).

Bush seems to be going to the "little people". I don't mean that in a bad way. But he seems to be trying to connect with people that most politicians overlook or ignore.

This with the Amish and in the UP is actually a very smart move. He is saying to them, "You are America and you matter to me."

Big contrast between this and what the Kerry/Edwards ticket considers "the heart and soul of America"
