The chess community in New York expressed mixed views on the arrest in Japan of Bobby Fischer, the Brooklyn-raised reclusive former world chess champion, on charges of traveling on a revoked U.S. passport.
Fischer, 61, was arrested last week by Japanese immigration officials as he tried to fly out of Tokyo's Narita Airport to the Philippines using a passport that the U.S. government reportedly revoked last year.

The other article I read, stated that he's a rather
vociferous anti-Semite, despite the fact that his
mother is/was Jewish, and thereby he is also.
As I understand it, Bobby Fischer hates the USA and is vocal about it. He has no intention of coming back. He did a match in Yugoslavia twelve years ago, and we put out a warrant for him.
He was arrested in Japan, and may be extradited to the US to serve prison time in a country where he did not break any law. He broke US law in Yugoslavia. They're just fining people for going to Cuba.
Does anyone see this as being a bit obsessive? He's a nut. No one pays attention to him outside of chess circles. Everyone in chess circles knows he's a nut.
Let him be someone else's nut.

To those chess players; in the words of W, "Who cares what you think?"
Bump for the greatest of games
Be GONE!
Sorry... looks like his chessnuts are in the fire now!!!
Commendable, Destro.
Did said article also tell you also that Fischer is most probably mentally ill and an undiagnosed paranoid schizophrenic?
And you want to do what to the mentally unstable like Fischer? Euthanasia?
From this article:
"Fischer has been in exile since 1992, when he ran afoul of U.S. authorities by participating in a rematch in Yugoslavia with Russian chess rival Boris Spassky. Washington was complying with a United Nations ban on doing business with the war-torn Balkan country at that time."
Now you know why the overkill to get Fischer - he is insane but a celebrity and defied the powers that be and vengeance will be theirs. Go to Cuba all you want though.
<< Sorry... looks like his chessnuts are in the fire now!!! >>
To not mention what pieces of him are in the vice and on the block!
Check?
Mate?
No, it was an obvious hit piece on Fischer.
The entire theme was to paint Fischer as
an America hater and an anti-Semite, when
it is so obvious by his behavior that he
is a very troubled and sick man.
I'm just trippin' on extraditing a guy that does not want to come to the USA, for visiting a country we had a ban on, and put him in a US jail when Martha needs the space. LOL

I had an epiphany, thanks Destro. I'll be we did not get his share of taxes from the prize money!
Let him loose in your apartment.
UNSCR 757, which EO 12810 addressed, was proposed by the United States, in addition to Belgium, France, Hungary, Morocco, and Great Britain.
I suppose it's pointless attempting to explain how Fischer's presence lent credibility to the head of Jugoskandik, Jedzimir Vasiljevic, thus helping him loot even more hard currency from Serbs with his "15% a month interest" pyramid scheme.
For a Serb partisan, you have a disconcerting habit of winding up on the side of those screwing the average Serb.
Agreed I don't want him back here. Ship him to Israel.
If he was doing anything even remotely interesting, like beating Karpov's behind, or Deep Blue, sure.
He's not. I do like the idea of extraditing him to Israel for violating a UN directive, executed by the US, from Japan.
It is the kind of thing you'd find in the movie "Brazil".
DK
That is Jedzimir Vasiljevic's crime if that is the case - not the chess player.
Regarding teh Serb remark - I am not a Serb and have no right or say in what Serbs do in Serbia. As an American I am concerned with what Americans do in Serbia or to be more accurate - what Americans do to Serbs and to Americans that dare defy the UN and State Dept when they go to Serbia to play chess rather than say bomb a train full of civilians from 30k feet above or import Islamic terrorists.
