CHRISTIAN RESTAURANT OWNER KILLED BY MILITANTS
Attackers cut off hands and blind eyes of Muslim assistant

MOSUL, IRAQ (ANS) -- The Christian owner of Al-Hanna restaurant in Mosul's Al-Dawasa district has been murdered by the Islamic Wahhabbeen group because he had American customers, a human rights group said Friday July 23.
Barnabas Fund, which investigates the plight of persecuted Christians in mainly Islamic nations, said owner Hani Matti Betti was killed Monday in the northern town, July 19, by militants who also "cut both hands off his business partner, a Muslim, and blinded him in both eyes".
"They stated that this was to be understood as a sign to anyone working with the Americans," Barnabas Fund claimed. It quoted a local media report as saying that militants before killing the shopkeeper shouted: "You are a Christian. Why do you sell food to the Americans? Are you an agent for the Americans?"
There was no way of independently confirming the Barnabas Fund report. However ANS has learned in Baghdad that several Christian
shopkeepers, especially those selling alcohol, were killed or injured in Muslim related violence.
SPIRITUAL NEEDS
Barnabas Fund urged its supporters, which include many born again Christians, to "pray for the Muslim restaurateur who has suffered such appalling mutilation" and for "effective medical treatment and also for his emotional and spiritual needs at this time." In addition it urged prayers for Hani Matti Betti's wife and four daughters, the oldest aged 20" that they "may find comfort and consolation in the Lord."
In its statement, the organization also urged its supporters to "pray for peace and stability in Iraq" as the latest attack has added to concern about the fragile security situation in Iraq, despite the recent handover of authority by the United States-led coalition to the interim government.
Besides Christians, dozens of insurgents and several American soldiers were killed these days in one of the fiercest fighting in recent weeks. Several foreign hostages have been beheaded or otherwise killed by militants.

PRESBYTERIAN PREACHER ASSASSINATED IN INDONESIA (UPDATE)
Teenager in coma after being shot in eye, human rights group says

PALU, INDONESIA (ANS) -- A congregation of the Presbyterian Christian Church of Central Sulawesi (GKST) is preparing for a service without one of its preachers after she was shot dead while speaking from the pulpit in an attack that also critically injured a teenage church member, ASSIST News Service (ANS) monitored Friday, July 23. (Pictured: Cross at Indonesian church).
Rev. Susianty Tinulele, 26, of the GKST-member Efatah Church in Palu, the regional capital, was assassinated last Sunday, July 18, by "four masked men", who arrived by motorbikes and "opened fire with machine guns on the preacher and worship team," said the independent Barnabas Fund and Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW), two groups investigating the plight of persecuted Christians.
In addition a 17-year old church member, Desrianti Tengkede, "was shot through her right eye and died later in hospital," and doctors fought for her life, CSW claimed.
The organization corrected previous reports that the girl had already died saying that "despite this being confirmed by several sources" she "was in fact in a coma", and "currently in critical condition in intensive care" in a hospital in Surabaya. "CSW asks supporters to join with us in praying for Desrianti," it said in a statement to ANS.
Ten other worshippers were listed as injured, including at least three seriously wounded teenagers who were reportedly rushed to hospital.
FOOD
Barnabas Fund said there were indications that militants wanted to punish Rev. Susianty as "she had taken food to GKST pastor Rinaldy Damanik in prison two days before" her death. "Her support for him may be one reason why she was targeted."
Damanik is the head of the Crisis Centre of Central Sulawesi and was arrested in August 2002 and sentenced to three years in prison in 2003 on trumped up arms charges, CSW added. CSW said he was arrested "in a bid to stop him speaking out on human rights abuses in Central Sulawesi."
Rev. Susianty is the latest victim of what appears to be a campaign to assassinate Christian leaders in Central Sulawesi which began in November 2003, human rights watchers say. Central Sulawesi's police chief, Brig. Gen. Taufik Ridha, was quoted as saying that the campaign to kill prominent Christian figures "may be an attempt to disrupt this year's elections in Indonesia."
'HIT' LISTS
When police arrested suspected Islamic militants they found detailed descriptions of church services and lists of Christian officials, Barnabas Fund said. Violence is also directed against Sulawesi Christians who are not church leaders. The night before Rev. Susianty's death, Mrs Helmy Tombiling, 35, died from nine stab wounds to her chest and stomach, which were inflicted by attackers outside her home in Poso, the human rights group added.
CSW, which recently visited the region, quoted unidentified sources as saying that the four men involved in last Sunday's bloodshed are likely the same militants as those responsible for the assassination of State Prosecutor Freddy Silalahi in May. Mr Silalahi was overseeing the trial of five members of Jemaah Islamiyah, a radical Islamist movement.
The International Crisis Group (ICG) published a report in February 2004 detailing the extensive involvement of Jemaah Islamiyah and other militant groups in the region, CSW recalled in a statement. "The report also notes that systematic one-sided violence against overwhelmingly non-Muslim victims is continuing."
HARDLINERS
Although a CSW delegation found genuine support and the wish for reconciliation at grassroots level during its June visit, "the situation remains tense and both communities were concerned about the presidential elections and the upcoming local head of local administration ballot," the organization said.
"It was also evident that hard-line militants continue to dominate certain areas in Central Sulawesi and appear to be able to operate with relative impunity. Little or no action has been taken to bring the perpetrators to justice. Often details and the whereabouts of these so-called unknown assailants are in fact known and in many instances there is also sufficient evidence for their arrest," CSW added.
The human rights watchdog suggested there is no "political will, particularly at the regional level, to follow through with prosecutions", in a country where nearly nine of 10 people are said to be Muslims.
Mervyn Thomas, Chief Executive of CSW, said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those who have been so brutally murdered (and injured). It is vital the Indonesian authorities pursue a proper investigation into these and other recent attacks to ensure those responsible are brought to justice. If this is left undone, it will only encourage more violence and further endanger the fragile peace in Central Sulawesi.”

On July 16, after the resignation of the city council in Cancun and the removal of the mayor, there were violent demonstrations centered around city hall (Ayuntamiento) and the Plaza de la Reforma in downtown Cancun, and demonstrations have continued throughout the week. Americans traveling to Cancun should use caution and avoid crowds, especially around the city hall and the Plaza de la Reforma, as there is a potential for spontaneous violence. There is a possibility that members of the taxi unions or bus drivers might attempt to block the main road into the hotel zone as a sign of protest. Should there be a blockade of the road into and out of the hotel zone, travelers should not attempt to pass through or go around roadblocks.

However, TM is unique in the wide variety of information posted and the open analyses of all-around terror news and related current events -- all in one place. That is TM's strength IMO. I think that is probably what you mean.
No one "bags" jihadis except for the alphabets and Feds, but some hunters/cybersleuths have been instrumental in the "bagging." Jayna Davis, is one, there are more.

Who said I was joking? How would you emulsify pig fat? I had already thought of the bottle but the consistency of bacon grease is a little thick to get thru a spray pump, it also would not shoot as far as mace. Will anything happen? I doubt it. But if it did, I would be setting there kicking myself that I couldn't do SOMETHING to them before they took me out. Sitting on a plane like that you know you are already toast, I would not go down with a whimper.

Egyptian diplomat in Iraq taken captive

An Egyptian diplomat has been seized in Baghdad by a group calling itself "Lions of God Battalions in Iraq" who object to recent dialogue between Egypt and Iraq's interim government.
The capture was in response to comments by Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmad Nazif that Egypt is ready to offer its security experience to the interim Iraqi government, a videotape aired on Aljazeera channel said
The captive has been identified as Muhammad Mamduh Hilmi Qutb, the television said, based on the videotape sent to it by the group on Friday.
Egypt reaction
In a quick reaction to from Cairo, the Egyptian government said it was "absolutely not" considering troops to Iraq.
Egypt "reaffirms it is absolutely not considering sending Egyptian forces or soldiers to Iraq," Foreign Minister Ahmad Abul Ghait said on Friday.
The minister stressed that Qutb had been working to help "build brotherly relations linking the peoples of Iraq and Egypt."
Qutb was the third most senior official at the Egyptian mission in the Iraqi capital.
Demand
In the tape aired on Aljazeera the captors said the Egyptian embassy should not cooperate with the American forces. Instead it should help the Iraqi people in rebuilding the conflict-ridden country.
Qutb was shown sitting in front of six masked men in black, at least one armed with a gun.
Staff of the Egyptian embassy confirmed the diplomat had been seized. "Yes, yes sir it is him," First Secretary Badr al-Din al-Disuki said before hanging up the phone.

Dozens of foreigners have been seized since April to press demands for occupation troops to leave Iraq, to deter foreigners from working with US occupation forces or to extract ransoms.
Meanwhile, in another videotape aired on Aljazeera, a group which has threatened to behead seven captives - an Egyptian, three Kenyans and three Indians - issued a new 48-hour deadline to their Kuwaiti employers on Friday and demanded Iraqi prisoners should be freed from Kuwaiti and US jails.

The company must also pay compensation to the families of the dead in Falluja, the group stated in its videotape.
US attacks on the Iraqi town of Falluja over the last month have killed about 40 people.

Many captives have been freed, including an Egyptian released on Monday after the Saudi firm he worked for agreed to his captors' demands that it should close its offices in Iraq.
On Tuesday a Filipino truck driver was set free a day after Manila withdrew its troops in response to demands from a group who had threatened to behead him.

I just now had the time to check you alerting me to the discussion on FR TM
thread, which apparently had grown quite a bit since your original
notification. I also followed the links to the external sites, and see that
there are a lot of people who claim to have all of the answers about this
video. Perhaps I can help clear up any misconceptions about the video and
other related issues. Please read the following very carefully, and feel
free to quote me publicly, but only without editing my response or
excerpting anything as I wish nothing to be taken out of context.
1. As a FR member myself with no time to post and only skim headlines there
at best, I had NO idea there was such a controversy over the video. Quite
simply, both Laura and Jill found the same video, except that Jill was able
to save it to her hard drive while Laura was not at that time. Jill
graciously provided the video to Laura in its complete and unedited version.
2. While going through the video, Laura stopped it at a certain point to
grab a frame for illustration purposes for our site. The point where it was
stopped was somewhat arbitrary, but based in part on a subtle difference in
the "flow" of the video. It was at this point that the video was advanced
slowly to a frame where the alpha-numeric code was found on a single frame.
3. Following that find, Laura contacted me by cell; at that time, I was with
another investigative analyst and we went to his office to view the video
that was now present on our server. We found the frame and code (as well as
other code stings in additional frames later). I notified two of my federal
LE contacts in DC by telephone, and subsequently provided the video and
frame capture to one federal agent at his request.
4. Upon returning to my office, we had a conference call between analysts.
It was at that point we opted to post the image (code included) on our site
for public viewing. Based on a series of previous events NOT PUBLICLY KNOWN
or stated anywhere, including in our fee-based newsletter, we did so with
the belief that it could have the potential to alert those who might have
placed the code as an operational command that their plans were detected,
thereby giving LE time to act or react. It was purely a judgment call on our
part.
5. A careful analysis using video analysis software suitable for court
presentation and authentication, I found several additional frames
containing different alpha-numeric strings, an endeavor that took me most of
the night. I notified my federal contact of the exact locations of each
frame and forwarded the results to him in a second email the next morning.
6. Approximately 36 hours later, I received an informal request to remove
the frame from the front page of our website as we cooperate with legitimate
law enforcement requests. One might ask why it remains on other sites - I
cannot answer that question or speak for other site operators. During the
contact with LE, however, he stated that this is not an atypical method of
communication by computer-savvy "terrorists" and has been in use long before
the events of 9/11.
7. The implication (and in some aspects, outright accusations) that Jill
from her own site, Laura, myself, or anyone else connected with the
Northeast Intelligence Network either fell for an elaborate hoax or
perpetuated the same is unfortunate - and totally incorrect. If that were
the case, apparently federal LE officials are complicit in the hoax as well,
which is ludicrous.
8. As an aside, I find it interesting that some members of FR, an
organization which promotes capitalism and free enterprise, have a problem
with our organization offering a fee-based newsletter. The newsletter
contains information relating to in-depth investigation of terrorist issues
dropped by the media or completely unreported. All critical information is
NOT shielded from the public and is always reported on our site for
everyone's use. Our newsletter provides in-depth reporting, in many cases
where I or other qualified investigators actually travel to locations,
conduct in-person interviews, and THAT takes time and money. It does not
contain regurgitated Internet information, People want information for free?
Simple answer - don't subscribe.

Not necessarily. They could have been set up, which would mean that the imbedded material in the video is still a hoax, but that Jill and StillProud proceeded in good faith. BTW, I don't think they were lying either.
