Pennsylvania Republicans are salivating over the prospects of independent Ralph Nader joining the fray for president in the Keystone State...
Nader's candidacy could be a deciding factor in a close race between the major candidates on Nov. 2.
Nader faces a hurdle first: His backers need to collect at least 25,697 signatures from registered Pennsylvania voters by Aug. 2 -- a project the Nader camp admits will be tough.
Staff members won't say exactly how many more signatures they need, but a June report in The Wall Street Journal and other media outlets, citing campaign volunteers, said the campaign at that point was far short of what's needed in Pennsylvania.
Nader plans an aggressive push in the next two weeks to get enough signatures, he said in a telephone interview with the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Asked whether he believes the petition drive will succeed, Nader said: "Yes, even though the time is short."

Governor Rendell will do whatever needs to be done to stop Nader from getting on the ballot here. You can count on that. Or maybe not - - it may depend on what Hillary wants.
Ralph Nader, the Dimocrats' Ross Perot!
I'd be happy to sign it. He's fishing in the wrong pond I guess.
I e-mailed this article to the PA GOP (pennsylvania04@georgewbush.com) asking them to help Ralphie out on this.
