By the way, for anyone who condones the Bush status quo on immigration.

Bush's most recent outrage was lobbying with the House Appropriations committee NOT to approve an amendment against the use of illegal alien ID cards.

They approved it 25 to 24. Roll call hasn't been announced yet.

This shows that immigration reform is really gathering a lot of steam.

Of course, the Senate is still occupied by 90-95 idiots of both parties, so getting actual immigration reform is going to take a long time (we will basically have to replace the entire US Senate).

But at least now the House is frequently voting on the side of immigration reform, thanks to the fierce citizen activism of immigration reformers and the fact that politicians are catching on to the fact that supporting lax immigration policies is going to hurt your chances for re-election.

And some are even catching on to the fact that the notion that they can win more Latino votes by supporting permissive immigration policies is sheer garbage and is not supported by the smallest shred of evidence.

In fact, an LA Times poll last year showed over 40% of Latino voters opposed driver's licenses for illegal aliens, and for a Republican to win 40% of the Latino vote would be an unusually strong showing. And in fact one of Schwarzeneggar's stands was to reverse Gray Davis' "driver's licenses for illegal aliens and terrorists" bill, and Schwarzeneggar won a decent share of the Latino vote.

So, as I always say, the way for Republicans to win Latino votes is to take a hard line on immigration.

As I always say: The "pro immigration" Latino vote is the vote of the future, and always will be.

Even if we legalized millions of illegals, you think they are going to vote for a politician that supports amnesty for illegals? That first amnesty would create an even more predatory job market than we have now, and the last thing in the world those legalized illegals would support is to amnesty more illegals to compete with them for jobs.

Dreier has an "F" ABI rating for his recent votes on immigration issues.

Do we have more specifics on what Dreier voted for that was pro illegal immigration?

I've heard plenty about his letter grade but no specifics, yet.

I brought this fact up last week on one of these threads. It supports what I've said, that the number one target should be Joe Baca.

Regarding the question about what specific legislation the grades are based on: I used to look these up but by now I have confidence that betterimmigration.com grades accurately reflect my views on these issues. I believe you can get the details on betterimmigration.com.

Regarding making Baca the primary target: Hard to argue with that one. I would make Baca and Dreier "co-prime targets".

I do believe Baca is beatable. He only won his district by 25,000 votes.

While a defeat of Dreier would send a message to the Republican Party, a defeat of Baca would send one to the Democratic Party. And what a message it would send. It would say, not only is the "pro immigration Latino voter strategy" a disastrous loser for you guys in the coming years, but you can't even win on that agenda in left wing Democrat districts with massive illegal alien populations.

To the guy who asked about Dreier's specific record on immigration, here is the web page on betterimmigration.com that shows the specific legislation that led to Dreier's report card for his grade on "recent" actions.

I notice he now has a D- so he must have voted on the good side on something recently that brought his "recent" grade up from an F to a D-

I know this is late but isn't it pathetic how the LA County Board of Stupes voted to place the 1/2 cent sales tax initiative on the ballot? We'll have so-called conservative Republican, Don Knabe, to blame if this thing passes. Knabe bent over for all the liberal city leaders, such as Mayor O'Neill & Chief Batts from Long Beach. He's too afraid to stand up for his alleged principles...proof of that is his proven track record of refusing to endorse solid Republican candidates in local elections. He wouldn't endorse a local conservative for dog catcher for fear that his liberal officeholder buddies would get pissed at him.

Saber-

I find it interesting that the Demos haven't caught on to the illegal alien issue - if the Dems hijack the border issue they could wedge it to fracture the GOP vote and split the conservative base...
