Bush lets Kerry take the spotlight

By Bill Sammon
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
Published July 20, 2004

President Bush has ceded the national media spotlight to Sen. John Kerry for the rest of the month, resigning himself to nonstop press coverage of the political opposition that will climax in next week's Democratic National Convention.
"It's kind of their month," Bush campaign spokesman Nicolle Devenish said of the Democrats. "They are going to, for most of the month, dominate the news in a largely positive way."
Consequently, the president will retreat to his Texas ranch on Friday afternoon and lie low until the Democrats' convention ends six days later. It will be the completion of a presidential vanishing act that began two weeks ago, when Mr. Kerry named Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina as his running mate.
Seeking to capitalize on excitement over the selection, the Democrats have granted a flurry of interviews to national news outlets including Time, Newsweek, USA Today, the New York Times, Reuters and the Associated Press.
By contrast, Mr. Bush has contented himself with granting interviews to smaller, regional newspapers, including the Toledo (Ohio) Blade, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and the Wheeling (W.Va.) Intelligencer-News Register.
"We have a very different communications strategy," Mrs. Devenish said. "Just because our picture's not on the cover of Time with a profile doesn't mean we've [gone] dark by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm hoping they don't give away their 'strategery'.

Today, Hannity said that he'd have cameras and recording devices when he'd be on the floor at the Dem convention. He blew it. He forecasted his punch and Sean will get zero interviews/candid conversations from the Libs. Sean was touting this strategy; and in my opinion just to push his ratings. Sean is as... almost... as flippy-floppy as Kerry. He's chasing the bucks and does not have the acumen to see , and do the the clever aspects in politics that his handlers thinks he can do. I've kistened to Rush for 13 years; Sean for five tears. Hannity plays his cards on the table and is usually wrong. IMOHO

Good tactics- the more voters see and hear Mr. Kerry, the less they are going to like him- Click to "scroll to commentary," proceed to the "last" of each of these and work backwards to see the latest information:

-The Edwards Files--

-John Kerry- some selected, informative links...--

-The Prince of Tides- Bush ads, Kerry ads, the Tides Foundation, and so much more--

-Kansas City Kerry- "The Phoenix Project"--

Just as long as he realizes that he can expect no such grace in return. First, it's not in the Democrat's nature, and second, it's too close to the election for the Democrats to give up that much time.

Ditto that. He works his rating and is a little light on serious issues. Regardless, he was a warm beacon touting free enterprise and capitalism. That's about the only reason I listen to him. Not that I need a business lesson from him. I've run bigger corporations than Sean's income statement / balance sheet. Just interested in someone who has some sand in defending America's principles.

From that perspective, he does a reasonably food job. Why? ... figure his paycheck from WABC.

In light of Trousergate, I wonder if part of President Bush's decision to keep a low profile isn't for giving Kerry plenty of room to twist in the wind.

Bill Sammonella needs to stick to facts and stop with the embedded juvenile comments.

Must be a great editor over at the Moony Times.

If I turned in this article to my journalism prof, it would be returned with red ink all over it.
