Yes it seems that they are playing both sides of the fence. The UN Arms (and Legs) Inspectors are being invited back in (despite leaks notifying Iraq before searches were done).

The claim is being made that the UN inspectors are more qualified than the US coalition troops/inspectors.

Then there is the followup that this is just so that they can conclude their report (like they don't even plan to look hard).

We haven't found large stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction. Then again we haven't found Osama Bin Laden, the source of the anthrax, or a number of other things. Even the Olympic bomber was not found for several years.

It would be foolish to conclude that these things "did not exist" because we did not find them.

It's logically impossible to prove a negative anyway. However remote the prospects for finding WMD may have been, this was always a foolish peg for the Left to choose to hang its hat.
