Speaker Hastert on Congressional Investigation Regarding National Security and Sandy Berger
US Newswire ^ | 7/21/04 | House Speaker Dennis Hastert

Posted on 07/21/2004 7:25:28 PM PDT by Steven W.

WASHINGTON, July 21 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) today made the following statement:

"Like many Americans concerned about our national security, I look forward to learning more from the House Government Reform Committee's investigation into the wayward actions by Sandy Berger. The American people deserve to know why Mr. Berger apparently skirted the law and removed highly classified terrorism documents, purportedly in his pants, from a secure reading room at the National Archives and then proceeded to lose or destroy some of them.

"How could President Clinton's former National Security Advisor be so cavalier?

"Was Mr. Berger trying to cover-up key facts regarding intelligence failures during his watch?

"What happened to those missing documents?

"Whose hands did they fall into?

"What kind of security risk does that pose to Americans today?

"I know Chairman Tom Davis (R-Va.) will work to get the full truth of what really happened and help all of us better understand why Sandy Berger, a person who should fully understand the gravity and importance of sensitive national security materials, would operate with such overt negligence and apparent disregard for the law."

Further comments by J.D. Hayworth on Hugh Hewitt show this afternoon: Berger, Lindsey & others expected to testify (may take the 5th) ... Clinton not likely to be called because of constitutional issues + he's a known liar who's totally unbelievable in what he might testify to (despite his comments today & yesterday acknowledging he was aware of these matters) so there's no point in calling him.

John Kerry on NBC when asked about Berger - "I didn't have a clue" ... yet Bush is expected to know what was going on in detail behind the gulags of Saddam Hussein while Hanoi John doesn't even know the current affairs of his former chief national security advisor who's readily portrayed as a bungler by Clinton and Kerry staff.

Let the hearings begin! Expected start date in the weeks following DNC convention.

The Lib talking points have been written and orders issued. Every...single...Dem interviewed about this answers by yelling, "This is an ambush before the Dem Convention! How dare the Repubs do this!" And the Drooling Lapdog Press (DLP) is marching in lock step with the Lib liars.

Good, well-put questions from Hastert.

They're going to have to change that line if they want to look in any way responsible or trustworthy when Berger is called before the committee to explain why he stole and destroyed the archive's most sensitive documents.

In pursuit of the matter, Kerry and all of his so-called national security folks (fools) should be brought before a grand jury and/or a Congressional committe to answer what they discussed and when they discussed it. This is amusing at one level (i.e. political) but at its core, it is an affront to national security...to paraphrase Mr. Kerry, "bring'em on."

1. What did Clinton know (that was contained in the documents)?

2. When did he know it?

3. How many more Americans will die?

How can 911 comission make a report when they didn't have all the documents. Sandy Berger
But of course, it's just like WACO, they get rid of all the things damaging to them.

This story could be developing legs. How does one take out so many documents accidentally and then "suppose" one destroyed them? The minute you pull CODEWORD documents out of your pants and realize what you did it's heart attack time and you go into high stress mode trying to figure out what to do next. If you are crooked you cover up your mistake. If you are even half honest you go back to the Archives with your tail between your legs and fess up. If this story is even half true he deliberately stole, mishandled, and illegally destroyed classified material of the most sensitive nature.

the DemoncRATs simply claim that since they have copies of the ultimate by-product or the original draft itself they don't need either the copies that people (including Clinton & Berger) wrote their comments on nor do they need any of the documents Berger destroyed that nobody otherwise would never know had existed (thus in the mind of a Moore-on it is not relevant!)

I fear some kind of Democrat trap. I think Berger is smarter than would be implied by this kind of dumb action. Perhaps the Dems want the pubbies to make all kinds of speculations and then show that the speculations are untrue.

Anything the 9/11 comission releases is compromised. It is a failed effort because they didn't have everything.

And not next February either.

Hastert must call for hearings next month, the week after the Democratic National Convention.

Beautiful! I will sleep soundly tonight dreaming of the delicious pictures of Sandy Berger, Bruce Lindsey, et. al. raising their hands to take the oath while hundreds of cameras are clicking......followed by the audio of them saying "I decline to answer that question on the basis of my rights under the Fifth Amendment."

Looks like it's Joe Wilson's pals about to get the frog-march, eh? LOLOLOLOL
