As the OLN helicopter filmed the race, I could see various words, some in French, some in German, Italian, etc. Some, I could even make out the translations.
At one point, I saw where the American (or at least the Armstrong fans were). There was one message that said:
"RIP THIER B@LLS OFF LANCE!"
I smiled...the French must be hating this.
Barriers are not sufficient for this mob. They need to be chained up.
Keep kicking their socialist asses Lance my man.
Dude don't leave us hanging. Give us some commentary.
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my Tour de France 2004 list. *Warning: This may be a high-volume ping list at times during July 2004.
Lance says the German fans have lit a fire in him -- If he has anything left in the tank look for him to completely obliterate Jan in the final TT Saturday.
"RIP THIER B@LLS OFF LANCE!"
I smiled...the French must be hating this.
I saw that 'road art' also - very clearly on OLN's Tour de France coverage - both live and during prime time - and was LMAO. Keep kicking Euroweenie butt, Lance! ;-D
The thing is, Tour de France crowds have been this way for decades. Look at footage from mountain stages in the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s. I haven't seen anything this year to compare to the crowds on the stage to Sestriere, across the border in Italy, in 1992, when Claudio Chiapucci won after an epic breakaway.
What is somewhat different this year is the (drunken?) surliness of some of the spectators, as was witnessed on l'Alpe d'Huez. One wonders if this is an "isolated" phenomenon this year, or if the Tour is beginning to develop a form of its own "hooligan" culture, as have been the case with European football over the past several decades.
Lance used to be my hero; five-time Tour champion, member of the US Olympic Team, overcoming cancer, charities for cancer, and the list goes on. But then he divorced his wife. Now he is running around with Sheryl Crow, while his wife Kristin is left alone with the kids. After his cancer he and his wife went through extraordinary medical intervention to have not one, not two, but three children. Their marriage lasted only five scant years. Putting your personal exploits above your family is reprehensible. Its not like the children were accidents, the guy cant make sperm.
I doubt if riders from any other country were subjected to anything close to this abominable treatment. And this directed toward an American champion who has been anything but arrogant toward Europeans during his many wins, even the scumbag French. These classless cretins need to be shunned by Americans and the few real friends we have left in this world.we will never regain their friendhip since so much of their antiAmericanism is based on ignorance and misconceptions. We don't need them. Besides, they've made it abundantly clear we can count on no help from them.
The French can have Lance, along with his new Liberal F-Toy.
Yep. Regardless, he's in the gene pool.
"PS. At least there wont be any illegitimate Lances JRs running around, the guy cant make sperm!"
Wow...you sound as bad as the Germans...
Right, he was married at the time of his diagnosis. He and his wife elected to freeze some of his little swimmers prior to any treatments (a common action for men with his diagnosis), for possible later use. After his almost miraculous recovery (it had spread), he and his wife had ivf(?) treatments and had first a son and a year or 2 later, twin daughters. Last year, he and his wife had reconciled after a separation and she and the children (about ages 4 & 2) were present for many of the stages. Not long afterwards, they split again (infidelities - his), enter Cheryl. He is a remarkable athlete and man, and except for the infidelity issues, a role model as well.
;-)
The old rubber tube can lay waste to most any critter.
Kevlar won't stop a stabbing. He'll need trauma plates...
Pigs.
The behavior of the "fans" of the Tour has been abysmal. It's becoming a freakshow of losers and unless the tour takes action the best riders in the world will stop participating.
Maybe that's what they want. To think - they like to talk about the Ugly American tourist, yikes! For those who watched today, did anyone catch Virenque having to push off a meddling fan? Just wow. Luckily, todays fans seemed to be more civil and respectful of the racers, like true fans of the sport are. Whatever Lance's politics are (and lately seemingly influenced or brought out by Cheryl's leftie side), he's still among the best in a great sport and this, the pinnacle of that sport, I hope he can pull it off.
