Yes. Also Rumsfield has said that. Friendly spirited competition, and distributed *authority* are the antidotes we should be getting, if we were as a Nation, sane.

Instead, we are addled. And loathe to give up our weakness -- because of lust for power.

I agree, you need the competition not everyone reporting to one guy. However, it would be nice if they talked to each other. I think placing too much power in one man is a mistake and we really shouldn't go there. Having "oversight" is one thing, making sure that the information is shared is important, but having one man in charge of all that is a mistake.

Without the competition, how would we ever know what is going on if we got someone bad in there?

But you're right of course. Too many chiefs and not enough indians. But that's been the problem for a very long time.
