It's simple. Most people do not believe in evil.
Most people are too sophisticated, too busy, over-worked and dumbed-down to actually accept the idea that there really are evil forces at work in the world.
In great part it's a failure of the churches to teach Scripture accurately. Instead of the Ten Commandments, we get government guidelines and social engineering.
People are afraid to judge because they are afraid they will be judged. So it's easier to think Islam is just another religion. All those dozens of instructions in the Koran to kill Christians are hyperbole. Since they don't take Scripture seriously, they can't conceive that others might take their beliefs VERY seriously.
