Did you see that one of the biggest criticisms in the 9/11 report was the failure of imagination in the government? Well, they're at it again, because they apparently cannot imagine this:

How would your local police respond to dozens of men in various locations carrying automatic weapons? Remember the chaos caused by two armed bank robbers with AKs and body armor in LA? How long would it take for the local National Guard units (provided they're not forward deployed) to form to respond? How many Americans would be killed before they did?

Far-fetched? So was hijacking planes and crashing them into the WTC/Pentagon/Capitol. Even if some were captured by DHS and the weapons recovered, others would get through. What sort of warning would your government produce if they were captured? Large illegal alien safe-houses with dozens of illegals living in them are discovered all the time.

If you were al-Qaeda, how would you respond to Afghanistan and Iraq? One way would be to bring the war to the US, to the homes of Americans, just like the war was brought to your home. It would put the lie to the whole notion of 'fighting them there, so we don't have to fight them here.'

Relying on our government to protect us from these people is like relying on the Post Office to protect you against termites. They don't have the equipment, the manpower or the inclination. Remember that the next time the Left howls about gun control.

Some of those AQ training vids that they pulled out of caves in Afghanistan looked like practice runs for exactly such a scenario.

(My fave "artistic flourish" was the application of crosses to the chests of the target mannequins.)

At my house they'd get buckshot shampoos and accupuncture with the hollowpoint slugs I have loaded in my riot shotgun.

I have heard and read bits and pieces about this report. I, also, heard the part about the failure of imagination in the government. Does anyone know if this report even addresses the massive illegal alien, open border issue?

If I was strategizing for AQ and actually decided I wanted to win this war (as opposed to just scaring and killing a bunch of Americans), your concept is what I would embrace. It's like a slow-motion D-Day invasion force, only very few are getting killed on the beach. Most are making it to their forward deployments. If AQ is thinking "victory", then it will be hell for us on the day the go order is given. Not that we will lose or give up, but it will be a "real" war on American soil.
