Nixon famously also called the gathering 'the gayest thing I had ever seen.'

The Nixon quote was "the most faggy goddamned thing you could ever imagine"...

Monte Rio is just upstream from where my Uncle lives (Jenner - one of the most beautiful spots on earth).

The sad thing is - in the instances when Gloria Allred and her ilk have been successful in destroying men's only organizations - the tenuous claim that there was business being done in the clubs and it was unfair to deny women the opportunity to kibbutz with businessmen - has been enough to win the day. In this instance - and by that warped logic - Ms. Allred would be on even better footing. And Monte Rio is within the 9th circus. Oy!

Maybe President Nixon had a vision of this lineup of speakers:

An untitled talk by David Gergen, commentator and advisor to Republican and Democratic Presidents. 'The Landscape of American Politics' by NY Times columnist David Brock, and 'The Long War of the 20th Century,' by former CIA director James Woolsey.

The whole thing sounds pretty creepy to me.

Former President Gerald Ford, however, apparently won't be in attendance, as his name does not appear on the guest list. Former President Ronald Reagan also appears on the list despite his June 5 death.

I sure would like an explanation of that one.

My hope is that Rumsfeld and Powell, along with a few chosen friends, beat the crap out of Gergen and Matthews.

Well, I know that isn't very ladylike, but I am fed up.

Also scheduled to attend are "conservative author William F. Buckley Jr., liberal TV personality Chris Matthews and gay porn star Chad Savage."

Of course, this is California, so finding fruits and nuts among the trees is not unexpected.

"Occidental resident Mickey Hart will join fellow Grateful Dead member Bob Weir. The musicians, along with rocker Steve Miller, are part of an effort to bring a younger vibe to the grove, the Wall Street Journal reported."

Well AllRight !!!!

I've been so disapointed to read name after name of musicians I admired lined up on the left.

Then here's Bobby and Mickey and even Steve Miller all at the conservative gig ... wow !!!!

This paranoia by the left over the Boho Grove (and its cowboy version, Rancheros Visitadores)has been going on since about the early 70's when a book by one of the counter-culturalists was written about the secret conniving and scheming that took place there.

I went once, as a guest, and nothing could be further from the truth. Nixon kinda had it right, as there is a lot of theatrical cross-dressing raunch that goes on (but nothing worse than the stage play scene from South Pacific.

It's just a bunch of guys letting off steam. many are quite wealthy, but many are not. Its altogether much more balanced, in terms of membership, than the DNC.
