'NO-SHOW JOHN' BURNS BEANTOWN
New York Post ^ | July 25, 2004 | Howie Carr

July 25, 2004 -- BOSTON

So far, John Kerry has been an onlooker at his own convention.

Every day last week, the already- dark mood of his hometown grew surlier, as the extent of the convention's massive disruptions of daily life became ever more apparent. But the man who would lead the Free World essentially went MIA.

He spent several days in serene splendor at the $10-million oceanfront mansion on Nantucket that his second wife inherited from her first husband. The senator windsurfed by day and hobnobbed with the Beautiful People by night, pedaling his $8,000 Serotta bicycle into the village for dinner at one or another of the island's fancy restaurants.

Meanwhile, in the sweltering city, the heavy lifting of actually averting total chaos was left to two local pols — Boston's Democratic Mayor Thomas Menino and GOP Gov. Mitt Romney.

Kerry is following in klintoon's shoes, of being on vaction his entire presidency. Good news, kerry will lose because the majority of Americans love President Bush. We do not need another traitor in the White House. Bush/Chney 2004

Kerry is just one of the common people?

Howie's been having a lot of shows recently with the theme, "your encounter with John Kerry." This is one of my favorites.

"Howie, one summer I did some work for Kerry at his place on Naushon Island. Every winter they have to round up the sheep and get them into the barns for the winter. A line of people starts at one end of the island and works its way across, through the brambles and marshes, pushing the sheep back across the island."

"So here we are in the thorns trying to get these stupid sheep to move, and where do you think Kerry is? He's up on his horse directing things. And then, you can't just say, 'move your fat ass you stupid sheep,' you have to say, 'Hi-On!'" (laughter).

Another story:

"I was docking my boat on Nantucket, and who do I see pull in but John Kerry. He had a large outboard with a huge engine. He was having a hard time maneuvering it in, so I grabbed the line and pulled him in."

"That's a pretty big engine you have there."

"Well, I'm a very important person." (laughter)

Menino did not appreciate being hung out to dry by his ostensible ally. "If they ever name a street after Kerry," said one of the mayor's allies at City Hall, "it'll have to be one-way."

But, but, but.....sKerry doesn't do anything just one way, everybody knows that!

One newspaper asked restaurant managers how they expected to fare during the four days of the convention. Most were pessimistic, except for one wings joint near the FleetCenter that is predicting a 75 percent uptick in business: Hooters.

It figures.

I wonder how long that sign is going to last? I don't give it a day. Perhaps we should get a hidden security camera to see how long it survives the DNC goon squad. Plus the owner would be able to prosecute the people that infringed upon his 1st Amendment rights.

This from the guy who said "the little people need someone to speak for them"?

Check out The Kerry-Edwards press credentials for The National Urban League Conference this week. They sure know about little people.

Here's a Shot of That Kerry Rolls-Royce Press Credential!

Can anybody tell me how it's possible to justify the price of an $8,000 bike??

It's probably made from special lightweight titanium alloys from recycled SR-71s.

That cage resembles the pens put up in England to rein in Soccer Hooligans.

Exactly. Soccer hooligan, protester--same difference. Any reason to party, dude.

If I remember correctly, when the Republican convention was here in San Diego in 1996, it was an incredibly successful and happy affair (even with the losing candidate!) The businesses were happy, etc. Everything went without a hitch. I think SD would welcome the Republicans back at any time.

The Kerry campaign seems to feel the same way about Bostonians as it does about Black voters; "we've got them already, why worry about them?"

"I just saw the DNC Chairman on FNC, He said "we are proud of Kerry's 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. WHAT??"

Yup, that's because that was Kerry's crowning lifetime achievement. One harbor tour and one riverboat patrol in a war that ended more than 3 decades ago.

His first job out of college is the only thing that the Dems can think of to warrant his becoming President.

It's all that they've got.

I'm psychologically prepared for the worst. I keep reminding myself that the American sheeple elected Bubba, not once but twice. Our country is increasingly hyphenated, and at least half the population consider themselves to be oppressed victims of the other half. Kerry has never run anything except his mouth, and if elected, would be a disaster. I pray at least for a Republican Senate and House with some guts.

The official spin/damage control on the Rolls is that it's supposed to represent who got Bush tax cuts.

If that's really the case then their 'tax cuts for the wealthy' message is lost. They have failed to create that Pavlovian response in the 'little people'. Instead, when shown an image of conspicuous consumption in a partisan Rorschach test, they immediately think of Kerry!

If GW is not re-elected the Senate may very well be flipped as a result of those GOP senators retiring. A hanoi john win will wash in several extra RAT senators..........

"Kerry is starting to sound like an American version of Prince Charles. "

What do you mean starting? And frankly, Prince Charles isn't as arrogant or obnoxious as John Kerry.

John Kerry, Honorable Senator, claims to be a Viet Nam vet. More than claim, does the Honorable, he waves that flag of "Viet Nam Vet" at any opportunity.

According to William Sauerwein at David Hackworth's "Defense Watch: Soldiers For The Truth (SFTT) Weekly Newsletter", Oct. 24, 2001 (http://www.sftt.org/dw10242001.html) "The average tour of duty for most military personnel was one year, thirteen months for Marines."

The Honorable Kerry served four months. That's 1/3rd of an average tour of duty.

So perhaps Kerry, might better call himself, an "0.33 Vietnam Vet". One third. Suggestive of the three bandaids that he cashed in.

Kerry's hoping he'll be able to refuse to cross a picket line so he can hold off accepting the nomination...an idea he floated a few months ago.

Kerry's wife is desperate to be first lady and she is trying to buy her way there. He's starting to remind me of a chewed up old dog bone.
