Carr sure sums up why this could be a pretty ugly convention even though we all know Senator Kerry is the nominee.

If I remember correctly, when the Republican convention was here in San Diego in 1996, it was an incredibly successful and happy affair (even with the losing candidate!) The businesses were happy, etc. Everything went without a hitch. I think SD would welcome the Republicans back at any time.

The Kerry campaign seems to feel the same way about Bostonians as it does about Black voters; "we've got them already, why worry about them?"

I'm psychologically prepared for the worst. I keep reminding myself that the American sheeple elected Bubba, not once but twice. Our country is increasingly hyphenated, and at least half the population consider themselves to be oppressed victims of the other half. Kerry has never run anything except his mouth, and if elected, would be a disaster. I pray at least for a Republican Senate and House with some guts.

John Kerry, Honorable Senator, claims to be a Viet Nam vet. More than claim, does the Honorable, he waves that flag of "Viet Nam Vet" at any opportunity.

According to William Sauerwein at David Hackworth's "Defense Watch: Soldiers For The Truth (SFTT) Weekly Newsletter", Oct. 24, 2001 (http://www.sftt.org/dw10242001.html) "The average tour of duty for most military personnel was one year, thirteen months for Marines."

The Honorable Kerry served four months. That's 1/3rd of an average tour of duty.

So perhaps Kerry, might better call himself, an "0.33 Vietnam Vet". One third. Suggestive of the three bandaids that he cashed in.

Kerry's hoping he'll be able to refuse to cross a picket line so he can hold off accepting the nomination...an idea he floated a few months ago.

Kerry's wife is desperate to be first lady and she is trying to buy her way there. He's starting to remind me of a chewed up old dog bone.

Meanwhile, in the sweltering city, the heavy lifting of actually averting total chaos was left to two local pols — Boston's Democratic Mayor Thomas Menino and GOP Gov. Mitt Romney.

And of course now, from what I've been reading, Menino's time is tied up with trying to run a pizza shop owner out of business because he has the unmitigated gall to place a pro-Bush sign on the front of his shop.

If the GOP was causing this much misery and was this out of touch, it would lead every media newscast and front page in the country.

Jacques Ketchup has never been one for heavy lifting. He ducked out of Vietnam after four months; he'd likely leave the White House, too, if there were any real work to do.

"If they ever name a street after Kerry," said one of the mayor's allies at City Hall, "it'll have to be one-way."

Oh this is hilarious! This coming from his own team! L0L

This line is my favorite:

Menino did not appreciate being hung out to dry by his ostensible ally. "If they ever name a street after Kerry," said one of the mayor's allies at City Hall, "it'll have to be one-way."

pedaling his $8,000 Serotta bicycle into the village for dinner at one or another of the island's fancy restaurants.

Hold on, let me get this straight....

He showed up at a fancy Nantucket restaurant dressed like this:

They've scheduled a special concert of the Boston Pops to "thank" the city, but their initial plans ran into trouble when the first organizer quit, claiming he couldn't get anyone in the campaign to pony up the necessary funds.

Last I heard about that "thank you" concert, it wasn't going to be for the hoi polloi -- just bigwigs with passes. The party of the working man strikes again!

Pregnant women have been told to find suburban hospitals for their deliveries. Chemotherapy and radiation treatments have been canceled, along with all elective surgery.

Unconscionable.

The major commuter-rail station closed Friday night. Many subway commuters will be dumped onto buses, which will then head out into utter gridlock. Traffic helicopters are grounded. Even the commuter boats have been ordered to halt their runs. Pregnant women have been told to find suburban hospitals for their deliveries. Chemotherapy and radiation treatments have been canceled, along with all elective surgery. One newspaper asked restaurant managers how they expected to fare during the four days of the convention. Most were pessimistic
