Millennium Docs Destroyed by Berger Before 9/11 Hearings
Most of the existing drafts of the White House's After-Action Millennium Plot Review were stolen from the National Archives and destroyed by former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger at least six months before the Sept. 11 Commission dealt with Millennium issues in interim staff conclusions and public hearings.
A chronological review of hearings and staff statement transcripts available on the 9/11 Commission web site shows that the Millennium plot was not covered in any detail until public hearings in March and April 2004, more than six months after the Berger thefts.

Over four sessions on March 23-24 and April 13-14, Commission transcripts show a total of 96 references to both the Millennium plot and the after action review.
Before the Berger document destruction in Sept. and Oct. 2003, however, a search through Commission transcripts covering five separate hearings turns up just five mentions of the Millennium plot.
Berger's attorney, Lanny Breuer, acknowledged to the Washington Post on Sunday that his client's last visit to the National Archives came on Oct. 2, 2003, two days before archives officials told Berger he was suspected of removing documents.
Those same officials told the Post that they had five or six drafts of the Millennium after-action review in their files, all of which were eventually stolen by Berger. Only two copies were returned, the Post said, noting, "other drafts of the after-action document, [Archives officials] said, were apparently discarded."
On Sunday Commission co-chair Lee Hamilton insisted that investigators had reviewed every Millennium Review draft that the Archives had in their files, telling NBC's "Meet the Press," We believe we've seen all the documents . . . We're quite sure we've seen all the documents in full."
But the Commission's first staff statement on any topic wasn't released till January 26, 2004 - a full four months after Berger had destroyed the most of the copies of the Millennium after-action review stored at the Archives.
While Democrats have argued that the Millennium reports destroyed by Berger were copies, the New York Post reported on Friday, "Officials say it is possible he also got some unique documents directly from the files" - an apparent reference to oringinal handwritten notes made by senior Clinton officials on the draft copies.
Neither Hamilton nor Commission Chairman Tom Kean have given any public assurances that every draft of the Millennium review, complete with original notes, had been seen by investigators before Berger destroyed them.

Berger taking these documents (five times) before thay could be studied..... you should have alot to say about that! I haven't heard a peep.
What's up, ladies?
This is an amazing breach of national security. It is unbelievable that he still hasn't been indicted.
The story seems to have repeated itself. I wonder if you could remove the repeated part. Thank you.
Democrats have different rules to live by and Republicans lack the jewels to fight for anything.

"One...two...three...FIRE!!"
You joined us recently. Welcome. Great to have you here.
But, I can't help but think that this, in some way, is going to be a way to get at Clinton's never-ending crimes in office. We can only hope.
But he still walks around scott free.
This makes me sick.
Berger should be grabbed immediately and hooked up to a lie detector. For National Security.
DON'T get me started!
Yes it is, and can you answer the question in post # 2. Those Jersey Girls were real loud about Bush being negligent. (The best known and most quoted pronouncement of all had come in the form of a question put by the leader of the Jersey Girls. "We simply wanted to know," Ms. Kristin Breitweiser said, by way of explaining the group's position, "why our husbands were killed. Why they went to work one day and didn't come back.")
Now we find that documents needed to ascertain what really happened over the years were stolen REPEATEDLY - before they could be looked at! This is AMAZING.
I'm surprised Berger didn't steal The Declaration of Independence while he was in there.
All this fuss over a third rate Bergery.
public square..... hanging
Yeh, who was the a**hole who called it that the other day?
Is it possible to stuff top-secret documents down your pants "accidentally," as Sandy Berger and his apologists are trying to claim with a straight face? House Majority Leader Tom DeLay will have none of it.
Evoking images of Watergate, or perhaps the fast-food Hamburglar, DeLay, R-Texas, described the disgraced former Kerry adviser's light-fingered antics as "just a third-rate burglary."
This could shape up to be bigger than Nixon's Watergate Hotel scandal. This appears to be Democrat damage-control run amok. Nixon's staff burglarized the Watergate Hotel to learn information about Democratic strategy in the election. Berger is fairly obviously seeking to remove specific information regarding the Clinton Administration's handling of the issue of terrorism.
That the media is not covering the implications of this issue is a huge disservice to American politics. It's important to focus on this so that partisanship doesn't persuade people to believe that their political party is incapable of such shady conduct. Of course, people like Dan Rather get to choose which news they'd Rather cover.
It appears that Sandy Berger is removing and destroying documents relevant to Clinton's handling of terrorism. One can only assume that, considering Berger's reputation of partisanship and loyalty to Clinton, that this information is potentially damaging (in Berger's opinion) to Clinton Adm. officials. It's worse than Watergate, because instead of information going where it shouldn't, information is actively being destroyed or hidden from our view.
OK, that works too.
But he's getting more and more depressed by the minute. (Suicide pending.)
