Democrat party officials are struggling to contain the amount of anti-Bush and anti-war comments to be delivered this week during the convention in Boston, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
DNC chair Terry McAuliffe has expressed concern that nonstop Bush bashing from the podium could quickly spiral out of control and backfire.
DNC staffers have also been told to be on the lookout for "unreasonable" Bush bashing signs held by delegates on the convention floor which could be highlighted on television.
"We are not Michael Moore," McAuliffe has told his top staffers, according to a well-placed source. "Let's tell the voters what we stand for, not only what we stand against."
McAuliffe has reportedly given orders to senior staff that hard-core Bush bashing should be saved for other forums and surrogates.
"Of course there will be a fair amount of pointing out the president's record," a top party source explained from Boston.
Top Kerry strategist Bob Shrum is also warning not to turn the convention into a default Hate Bush rally.
But the temptation to rip Bush without mercy is proving to be too much for many of the speakers.
Kerry operatives are editing convention speeches, sources say, with only Al Gore and Ted Kennedy believed to be off-limits.
[The move is reminiscent of Nixon at the 1968 convention in Miami, when the campaign edited out anti-war liberal Republicans.]
Developing...
Trouble is, the DNC doesn't stand for ANYTHING! They are against everything and for nothing.
Bush-bashing is the only arrow in their quiver. If the American public ever finds out what the Democrats actually want to do if they get in power, it's over.
Of all the speakers this is the one I'm most worried about. I just visualized Cleland lecturing Bush about the costs of war and the emotion he could stir up as a vet. I then felt the same way I felt during the macarena on Clinton's first convention when I said to myself - he's won this. Dems are masters of emotion. We'll see.
Do they really think they can control the Bush Bashing? If there was no Bush Bashing, there'd be maybe an hours worth of convention for the Dems. What the heck is else do they have to talk about?
Might be humorous to see how long they could do it. A whole convention floor filled with the leftists holding their tongues.
Chissie's the only guy I've ever seen who can spit and suck simultaneously.
I didn't notice his pants till after I posted..
WAS THERE A FLOOD NEAR BY???
BASH BUSH! BASH BUSH! BASH BUSH! (repeat ad nauseum)
I think that as long as they protest 2 blocks out from the fleet center they dont have to use the cage
No, I can assure you that it won't be, at least not during the national televised prime time portions. This is the Eddie Haskell party, they'll put on quite the innocent face for the viewing Mrs. Cleavers.
Yeah, but what does McAwful consider hard-core?
I expect there to be lots of pro-gay marriage posturing at this convention, as long as it does not directly challenge Kerry for not wholeheartedly approving of gay marriage. The only question is, will the media show it to this country? They have a lot of reasons to hush it up, might scare the sheeple.
Will they listen to Terry??
Will they be able to control themselves??
Hmmmmmm ... I'm sure a few will slip
For all of the so called "mean spirited" Republicans who constantly attacked Clinton, was this a concern in the 96 Republican convention?
I agree with you but the trouble for the Dems is that the average Mrs. Cleaver won't be watching. Sure, she will catch brief summaries on the news but she won't be glued to a cable station. In today's world the convention is about firing up the delegates, sending them out impassioned with raging fires in their bellies. So far the only way Kerry comes even close to these results is by bashing Bush. I like our chances with sound bites from Arnold, Rudy and John McCain better than the sedated Dems.
Mr Kerry prepares for possible flooding while deciding how to fire his interior decorator.
