I'm always surprised that it seems not a lot of people know about this scenic gem located about 10 miles upstream of Washington, D.C. In addition to being a scenic spot, it's also one of the nation's top training areas for competitive whitewater kayaking and canoeing.

I was there a couple of months after Hurrican Fran. There was debris wedged in the rocks a good 30 feet about the waterline.
