A year ago, the Community Clinic of Shelbyville and Bedford County was a dream. Now it provides free primary medical care to Bedford County residents who have no form of health insurance and have one household member working at least part-time. On Sept. 11, the organization will celebrate its anniversary with its second annual skeet and sporting clays shoot at the Three Bandits range just inside the Bedford/Marshall County line.
Since its opening through the end of June, patients have been treated at the clinic 774 times. Of these, 26.5 percent have been white males, 31.1 percent white females. Latino men account for 16.1 percent of the patients, and 19.8 percent are Latino women. Black men have accounted for 5.4 percent of the patients, with black women coming 1.1 percent of the time. Patients in the 20-54 age group account for 73.9 percent of the patients, with those 55 and over falling into the over 55 group. Approximately 11 percent are 19 and under. Its been an interesting year, said Dr. Donald Barnes, the clinics funding chair. Its a credit to all the volunteers that its been as successful as it is.
Almost everyone, except some physicians assistants and nurse practitioners, has been a volunteer. I think thats fantastic!
Now, perhaps some pharmacies could begin to offer free medicine. I am beginning to think that all of my effort to study in school to obtain an education for the purpose of having gainful employment and thus be able to pay my medical bills was all in vain. I knew there had to be a better way.
Shelbyville...isn't that right next door to Springfield?
No...it is due south of Murfreesboro, TN. Check the map.
They stole our lemon tree!
