NEW ELECTRONIC VOTING SYSTEM IN FLORIDA: FLAWED... all electronic records from first widespread use of touch-screen voting in Miami-Dade County have been lost ,,, records disappeared after two computer system crashes last year, leaving no audit trail for the 2002 gubernatorial primary... Developing NYT PAGE ONE, newsroom sources... MORE

KEYWORDS: electronicvoting; florida; voting
This is just the teaser above the masthead on the Drudge Report - the NYT story has not been released yet. But my blood is boiling at the prospect of the NYT teeing up the ball for Edwards and Kerry to bang the drum about election fraud and "counting every vote".

Al Gore never wanted "all" the votes to be counted. That's why he only requested re-counts in the 3 largest Democrat controlled counties in Florida. I have no doubt whatsoever that the Kerry team has already put a plan in place to challenge the votes, request recounts, and litigate their way into the White House.

As the saying goes...

Build a foolproof voting system and the Democrats will invent a better fool.

Votes need to be cast in a way that leaves a paper trail for verification. I vote in the Escambia County (P'cola) which uses electronically scanned paper ballots. If the machine spits out a ballot as being invalid it is very easy to judge what the voter tried to vote for. No chad and no hackable computer without a paper record.

Actually, Florida should pass a law that if there are any "problems" ala Florida 2k the local election officials face a 20 year sentence in the pen and a fine equal to the costs of any extra action required by the state.

Some Dems are fanatical enough to take such a bullet for Kerry (see Susan McDougal for Slick), but most aren't.

The Floriduh fix is in, since 2000 the democrats will do anybody and anything to make sure this election is questionable.

The REALLY bad news: the systems supplied by the same company are used in Broward and Palm Beach and they are checking nothing.

gee, y'know any semi-literate computer person KNOWS that you need to make at least a backup of your data!!!

However in light of the Democrat controlled counties and how they've 'engineered' this crisis, I believe that they should be held PERSONALLY & FINANCIALLY responsible for delaying releasing this info to create a crisis (with little or no time to spare top fix it).

Votes need to be cast in a way that leaves a paper trail for verification.

Especially when it comes to Florida and democrats are involved (actually anywhere democrats are involved). We need a secure paper trail. This is why I have a problem with some of the democrat bigwigs pushing for all electronic voting.
