I thought Carmine DeSapio died years ago! He was one of the few remaining links not just to old Tammany, but to the old Italian "South Village" which exists only in memory.
I wonder if his old rival Ed Koch will go to the funeral.

The Times obit was good, especially that part about the sanitation workers dressed up as college kids, but it omitted an interesting fact: That Frank Costello was the real-life capo that Don Corleone was based on.
I'm nostalgic. I'm nostalgic for the days when District Leader positions meant something, so much that Eleanor Roosevelt got into the act in the Greenwich Village race between De Sapio and Koch.

The passing of the society of St. Tammany deserves a toast.
