On 1/31/03, John Kerry told ROn Brownstein of the Los Angeles Times:
At the time, nobody in the Bush Administration was making the claim the Saddam actually had Nuclear Weapons, only that he was trying to acquire materials to make them.
Today, not even Kerry believes that Saddam had nuclear weapons.
This is the first time I've seen a candidate beg for people not to vote for him, and I think we ought to oblige him.
OPEN LETTER TO KERRY FROM 204 YEARS AGO:
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the Public Treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits from the Public Treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy always followed by dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been two-hundred years. These nations have progressed throught this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to abundance; from abundance to complacency; from complacency to apathy; from apathy to dependence; from dependence back again into bondage.
Alexander Fraser Tyler, 1700
Let's give him what he wants!
I voted for John Kerry before I voted against him.
Flip Flop BUMP!
I think we're at complacency to apathy.

THIS IS OFF SUBJEST BUT ANY OF YOU SEE ZELL MILLER ON SEAN'S SHOW? HE SAID WHILE KERRY WAS ON THE INTELLIGENCE COMM. THERE WAS 47 MEETINGS AND KERRY MISSED 39 OF THEM.
complacency-to-apathy stage, I agree.
It is apparently quite difficult to trace this quote of Professor Tyler to anything he is ever known to have written. Does anyone know its real and definitive origin?
It's still a great quote, though.
Interesting page about the quote!

Thanks for urging me to do more research.
